Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Isaiah 48:12-50:11, Ephesians 4:17-32, Psalm 69:1-18, Proverbs 24:5-6
Trust In God’s Promises
There are times in life when it feels like the whole world is against us. The psalmist cries, “Save me, O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck. Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can’t find a foothold. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me” (Psalm 69:1–2, NLT). Maybe you’ve felt that way — drowning in trouble, surrounded by voices of hate, with no solid ground beneath your feet.
David continues, “I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me” (Psalm 69:3, NLT). The weariness of waiting can be just as heavy as the flood itself.
And yet, even as enemies rise up and circumstances press in, we are reminded that God’s mercy never runs dry. “Answer my prayers, O Lord, for your unfailing love is wonderful. Take care of me, for your mercy is so plentiful” (Psalm 69:16, NLT).
The floodwaters may roar, but they cannot drown His promises. The hatred of others may wound, but they cannot remove His love. The weight of despair may press down, but it cannot crush His mercy. All these things will pass — but His faithfulness will never end.
David pleads, “Come and redeem me; free me from my enemies” (Psalm 69:18, NLT). And the God who answered him is the same God who answers you today. He is the Rock beneath your feet, the Shield around your heart, and the Shepherd who carries you through deep waters into peace.
So when you feel overwhelmed, remember this truth: He will not let you down. His mercy is plentiful. His unfailing love is wonderful. You can rest secure in Him. He promises, “Those who trust in Me will never be put to shame…For I will fight those who fight you…” (Isaiah 49:23, 25)
