Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Jeremiah 1:1-2:30, Philippians 4:1-23, Psalm 75:1-10, Proverbs 24:17-20
Called, Touched, and Sent
As we finish Isaiah and start the book of Jeremiah today, we see a holy pattern:
- God chooses His messengers
- He equips them with His touch
- then He sends them with His Word
Isaiah’s call came in a breathtaking vision: he saw the Lord high and exalted, and cried out, “Woe is me! I am ruined, for I am a man of unclean lips” (Isaiah 6:5). In response, a seraph touched his mouth with a burning coal: “Your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for” (Isaiah 6:7). When God asked, “Whom shall I send?” Isaiah, once trembling, was transformed: “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8).
Jeremiah’s call echoes the same melody. God declared, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart” (Jeremiah 1:5). Jeremiah protested: “I do not know how to speak; I am too young” (Jeremiah 1:6). But God touched his mouth, saying, “I have put my words in your mouth” (Jeremiah 1:9), and reassured him, “Do not be afraid…for I am with you and will rescue you” (Jeremiah 1:8).
Both prophets felt unworthy. Both confessed their inadequacy. And both were touched by God in the very place of weakness — their mouths — then commissioned to speak His Word with power.
The Lesson for Us
How often do we feel the same? Too unworthy. Too broken. Too inexperienced. Too afraid. We may think, “Surely God can’t use me.” But Scripture shows again and again: God delights to use those who know they cannot do it on their own. His touch cleanses us, His Spirit fills us, and His presence gives us courage.
Like Isaiah, we can say, “Woe is me” — but God answers with forgiveness. Like Jeremiah, we can say, “I am too young, too weak, too small” — but God replies, “I am with you.”
If God has called you — to speak, to serve, to encourage, to lead, to love — He will also equip you. “I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
Action (5 Minutes with God)
- Confess your inadequacy honestly before God.
- Ask Him to “touch” you in the place of your weakness, just as He did for Isaiah and Jeremiah. then Ask Him, “What do you want. me to know about this?”
- Journal what the Holy Spirit whispers.
- Declare by faith: “God equips those He calls, and He has called me.” Then ask the Lord, “What do you want me to do?”
- Journal what the Holy Spirit whispers.
- Then do it – Step out today ready to say, “Here am I, Lord. Send me.”
Prayer
Lord, You know my fears, my inadequacies, and my excuses. Thank You for showing me through Isaiah and Jeremiah that You are bigger than all of these. Touch my life where I feel weak, cleanse me where I feel unworthy, and fill me with courage to obey. Help me to remember that You are with me, and that through Christ I can do all things. Today I say: here am I, Lord — send me. Amen. 💎
