Faith’s Journey of Renewal and Rest
“What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings. They will continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem.” — Psalm 84:5–7 (NLT)
The journey of faith is a pilgrimage of seasons. In spring, we awaken to the truth of who God is — our hearts begin to blossom with the joy of new life in Him. Summer brings the heat and hardship, when our faith is refined and tested. But even in the dry, scorching places, God promises to sustain us. “Those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” — John 4:14 (NLT).
When we trust Him in our summer seasons, His living water flows through us, keeping our hearts tender and our faith alive. Autumn then comes as the season of surrender — when we finally lay everything at His feet, and in return, He transforms what once was weary into beauty. “The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings.” His Spirit refreshes us and fills every dry place until tears become springs of joy.
But not everyone reaches this place of renewal. In 2 Thessalonians 2, Paul warns that the rebellious will never enjoy it, for they reject the truth that could save them. Yet for those who believe — those who awaken in the springtime of faith and endure the heat of summer — the Lord pours out His Spirit, who makes us holy. And Paul urges us, “With all these things in mind, dear brothers and sisters, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the teaching we passed on to you” (2 Thessalonians 2:15, NLT).
Finally comes winter — not as death, but as arrival. It’s the moment the faithful pilgrim reaches Jerusalem and rests in the peace of God’s presence forever.
So keep walking, beloved. Every tear, every trial, every weary step is part of the pilgrimage. Drink deeply of His living water, let His Spirit refresh your soul, and stand firm in truth — for the autumn rains are coming, and they will overflow your cup with His blessings.
Action (5 Minutes with God)
- Take a deep breath and quiet your heart before the Lord. Imagine yourself kneeling at His feet. Ask Him, “What season am I in right now, Lord?”
- Journal what He whispers.
- Then ask, “What do you want me to know about that?”
- Journal what He whispers.
- Then ask, “What do you want me to do?”
- Journal what He whispers then do it!
Are you awakening in spring, enduring the heat of summer, surrendering in autumn, or resting in winter? No matter where you are, He is present — and His living water is available to you right now.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for walking with me through every season of life. In spring, You awaken my faith; in summer, You strengthen my endurance; in autumn, You teach me surrender; and in winter, You give me rest in Your peace. Help me to stay on Your path — the Highway of Holiness — and to drink deeply from Your Living Water each day. May every step I take draw me closer to You until I finally stand in Your presence, complete and whole. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
