Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Jeremiah 33:1-34:22, 1 Timothy 4:1-16, Psalm 89:1-13, Proverbs25:23-24
What Really Matters
“Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly.”
— 1 Timothy 4:7 NLT
There’s a lot of noise out there.
Everyone has an opinion, a doctrine, a podcast, a platform. Arguments rise over politics, side issues, myths, and traditions that don’t transform anyone’s heart. And Paul’s instruction to Timothy still rings loud and clear today:
Don’t waste your time.
Instead—train yourself to be godly.
We live in a culture that obsesses over outward strength: body image, self-discipline, performance. And while physical training has value, Paul reminds us that godliness is worth much more—because it benefits not just this life, but the next one too.
Godliness doesn’t come by accident. It’s not something you stumble into by scrolling or coasting along. Just like muscles are built by resistance, so is spiritual maturity.
“This is why we work hard and continue to struggle…” — 1 Timothy 4:10 NLT
This isn’t legalism. This is love.
We train our hearts, our minds, and our character—not to earn God’s favor, but because our hope is in the Living God, and we want to reflect Him well. He saved us, and now we train in righteousness so others can see Him through us.
“He is the Savior of all people, and particularly of all believers.” — 1 Timothy 4:10 NLT
So why get tangled in arguments that don’t matter?
Why waste energy on debates that don’t lead to godliness?
Focus on what does matter. Focus on truth. Focus on Christ. 💎
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Spend five minutes inviting the Holy Spirit to show you any areas that need realignment. Then ask Him to strengthen your heart for the training ahead. Today, ask the Lord:
- “Search my heart, O Lord, and reveal where I have been distracted, so I can refocus on You.”
- Journal what He whispers.
- Then ask, “What do you want me to know about that?”
- Journal what He whispers.
- Then ask, “What do you want me to do?”
- Journal what He whispers then do it!
Prayer
Dear Lord, I don’t want to waste time. I want to grow strong in You. Help me train in truth, walk in integrity, and focus on what builds my spirit, not what drains it. Teach me to be spiritually fit—not for show, but for Your glory. My hope is in You, the Living God. Strengthen me today to live like I believe that. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
