Dare to Hope Again: Lamentations 3 Devotional

Today’s one Year Bible Verses: Lamentations 3:1-66, Hebrews 1:1-14, Psalm 102:1-28, Proverbs 26:21-22

Beauty From Ashes

“Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.”
—Lamentations 3:21–23 (NLT)

Lamentations 3 is the cry of a weary soul—honest, broken, and raw. It begins with pain and personal anguish: the writer feels hunted, trapped, crushed, and forgotten. He even says, “Peace has been stripped away” (v.17). Sound familiar? Many of us have lived that line.

But in verse 21, something shifts:
“Yet I still dare to hope…”

It’s not that the circumstances changed—it’s that the writer remembered who God is. In the middle of suffering, grief, and ruin, he remembers:
God’s love has no end.
His mercies are new every morning.
His faithfulness never fails.

This pivot—from anguish to hope—is not denial of suffering; it’s faith in the middle of it. It’s the sacred art of remembering who God is when you can’t see what He’s doing.

Psalm 102 mirrors this same pattern. It opens with desperate cries: “Do not turn away from me in my time of distress” (v.2). The psalmist’s days are fading, his heart is sick, and enemies are circling—but still, he lifts his eyes to the One who “will arise and have mercy…” (v.13).

Both passages remind us that lament and hope are not opposites—they walk hand in hand. Grief doesn’t cancel God’s goodness. And crying out doesn’t mean you’ve lost faith. In fact, it may be the very proof that it’s still alive. 💎

Prayer

Lord, You see every place in me that feels broken, weary, or discouraged. Thank You for Your unfailing love and new mercies each morning. Even when I feel forgotten, You remember me. Help me to dare to hope again—not because of what I see, but because of who You are. In Jesus’ name, amen.
