“Why Me, Lord?”: Called and Chosen | Hebrews 2 Devotional

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Lamentations 4:1-5:22, Hebrews 2:1-18, Psalm 103:1-22, Proverbs 26:23

You Are The Reason For It All

Have you ever wondered, “Why would God even bother with someone like me?”
This is something that I have wrestled with just recently. I watched a sermon that put into perspective how BIG God’s creation is as it demonstrated the size of some of the biggest stars in the universe—and to think God is even bigger than all of that is incomprehensible. He has made so much with such vastness and glory. Why would He want little old me?

For two days I wrestled with this, and as I did, the enemy entered and began whispering things like, “Maybe you were mistaken. Maybe you aren’t called to be who you think you have been called.” When these thoughts entered, I knew I had to seek God deeper.

“Lord, help me to see the truth. Help me to see why you love me more than these.”

Then, in His most gracious and faithful manner, He began to whisper to me:
“Don’t you know I love you? Don’t you see all that I have done for you? This too shall pass and it will be for your good. I know what I’m doing. Trusting Me is the faith part… Yes, I am above all things, but it doesn’t mean I don’t see you or care for you deeply—you are the reason for it all!”

He then went on to show me I was called from before the foundation of the world and my name proves it. When I looked up the definition of my name, I saw that it describes who He has called me to be.

Wow! What a tender mercy that He would wait for this very moment to reveal this to me—knowing exactly when I would need it in my life. This is the God we worship. This is the God we serve. He is the most unbelievably loving and gracious God!

From the very beginning, He gave humans a special place in creation—crowned with honor and trusted with responsibility. We will fall short, we will make mistakes, but instead of leaving us He runs towards us. He left His throne above to become “a little lower than the angels” so He could pay the debt of our sin and bring us home to Him again (Hebrews 2:9-10).

Can you imagine such love, mercy, and grace?
It leaves me speechless and amazed.
I stand in awe of our almighty God, who doesn’t just love us, but loves us deeply and comes to satisfy our every need.

He sees you.
He knows you.
He loves you.

He called you from before the foundation of the world to do something great! It is written in your book—we just have to seek Him and claim it. Amen! 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Spend time today asking God to show you how He sees you. Look up the meaning of your name and pray over it. Ask the Lord if there’s something He wants to confirm or awaken in you. Write down anything He says so the enemy can’t twist it or steal it later.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for loving me beyond my understanding. When I feel small or forgotten, remind me that I was chosen before the foundation of the world. You see me, know me, and have called me for something great. Help me walk in Your truth today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
