Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Ezekiel 3:16-6:14, Hebrews 4:1-16, Psalm 104:24-35, Proverbs 26:27
Enter His Rest
When we read through Ezekiel 5 and 6, it’s like walking into a nightmare. The vivid and graphic judgment that falls on those who reject and detest God is beyond comprehension. Famine so severe that mothers turn on their own children… wild beasts attacking the vulnerable… bodies strewn across the hills under trees once used for idolatrous worship. It’s not just imagery—it was a warning, a judgment, and a painful reality for a rebellious people.
But what if this is just a glimpse? What if these earthly consequences are a shadow of what happens when we ignore God’s invitation for eternity?
Hebrews 4 reminds us that “God’s promise of entering His rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it.” That’s a powerful statement. This isn’t about religious performance—it’s about genuine surrender. God’s heart is always mercy, always redemption—but His holiness demands justice. We don’t get to casually brush off sin and expect Heaven on the other side.
The door is open. The invitation is extended. But only those who believe and obey can enter His rest.
We have a choice: God’s way, which leads to rest, peace, and eternal life—or our way, which leads to judgment, devastation, and eternal separation from Him. It’s not a scare tactic. It’s reality. It’s love wrapped in truth.
“So let us do our best to enter that rest… He is the one to whom we are accountable… Let us hold firmly to what we believe, Jesus, and come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (Hebrews 4:11–16)
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Take 5 minutes to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas of rebellion, compromise, or pride in your heart. Write down what He reveals then ask:
- “What do you want me to know about this?”
- Journal what He whispers.
- Then ask, “What do you want me to do?”
- Journal what He whispers then do it!
Repent, realign, and return. Don’t wait for the consequences to teach what obedience would’ve spared.
Prayer
Lord, I don’t want to just know about You—I want to walk with You. Search my heart and root out every hidden form of rebellion. Forgive me for any ways I’ve resisted or ignored Your voice. Thank You for Your grace, Your patience, and Your truth. Help me walk in obedience, cling to Your Word, and live in reverent awe of who You are. I want to enter Your rest, now and forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.
