The Veil Was Torn for You | Devotional on Ezekiel 18 & Hebrews 9

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Ezekiel 18:1-19:14, Hebrews 9:1-10, Psalm 106:32-48, Proverbs 27:10

God’s Heart To Rescue

Ezekiel 18:29 (NLT)

“The people of Israel are saying, ‘The Lord isn’t doing what’s right.’ But it is they who are not doing what’s right, not I, O people of Israel!”

Hebrews 9:9 (NLT)

“This is an illustration pointing to the present time. For the gifts and sacrifices that the priests offer are not able to cleanse the consciences of the people who bring them.”

From the days of the Old Testament, people have struggled with this thought: “God isn’t being fair.”
Ezekiel 18 addresses this head-on. God clarifies: every person is accountable for their own choices. You are not condemned by the sins of your father, nor are you righteous because of someone else’s faithfulness. You stand before God as you.

And yet, even in His justice, God pleads:
“Do you think I like to see the wicked die? Of course not! I want them to turn from their wicked ways and live.” (Ezek. 18:23)

He’s not looking to crush anyone—He’s trying to rescue everyone.

Fast-forward to Hebrews 9, and Paul explains the structure of the tabernacle: the outer room, the Holy Place, and then the Holy of Holies where only the high priest could enter—and even then, just once a year. That system was a shadow, a symbol, a stopgap. It could never truly cleanse the heart or erase the weight of guilt.

But Jesus came.
He became the final, perfect High Priest.
He offered His blood—not the blood of animals—and tore the veil in two when He died.

That veil wasn’t just fabric—it was a barrier between man and God.
And Jesus ripped it wide open.

Now we have a better system.
A better covenant.
A better hope.

No more sacrifices.
No more separation.
No more fear of entering in.

We can now enter boldly before the throne of God (Hebrews 4:16)—not because of what we’ve done, but because of what He did.

God’s character is unimaginable love, mercy, and grace.
But He is also a God of justice. The cross is proof of both.

He did all He could to save you…
Now the choice is yours. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

🔥 Examine your heart today.
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas in your life where you’ve looked spiritual on the outside but compromised on the inside.

Write down anything the Lord brings to your mind. Confess it. Repent. Tear down the idol before God has to.

Then, ask the Lord:

  • What do you want me to know about that?”
    • Journal what He whispers through the Holy Spirit
  • Then ask, “What do you want me to do?”
    • Journal what He whispers then do it!

Let this be the day you fully enter into the Holy of Holies—not in fear, but in faith—knowing the veil was torn for you.

Prayer

Father, thank You for Your mercy that is deeper than my sin. Thank You for not giving up on me, and for doing everything You could to make a way. Jesus, thank You for tearing the veil and inviting me into intimacy with You. Forgive me for the times I’ve blamed You or accused You of unfairness. I see now—it is I who was not doing right. But today I turn, I believe, and I step into the covenant You paid for with Your blood. Let me never treat it lightly. In Jesus’ name, amen.
