Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Ezekiel 45:13-46:24, 1 Peter 1:13-2:10, Psalm 119:33-48, Proverb 28:11
True Wisdom Isn’t Always Obvious
“Rich people may think they are wise, but a poor person with discernment can see right through them.” – Proverbs 28:11 (NLT)
We live in a world where wealth often masquerades as wisdom. The one with the biggest platform, fanciest house, or largest following is assumed to be the one we should listen to. But God sees things differently. Proverbs 28:11 reveals a sobering truth: being rich doesn’t make someone wise. In fact, it might blind them to their own lack of understanding.
That’s why David prayed with such passion in Psalm 119:36–37:
“Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money. Turn my eyes from worthless things and give me life through your word.”
David knew what many forget—true wisdom comes from God’s Word, not the world’s wealth. A poor man with spiritual discernment has more insight than a rich man whose heart is bound to earthly treasure. Because it’s not about what’s in your bank account—it’s about what’s in your heart.
So what are you chasing today? Riches, fame, approval? Or are your eyes fixed on truth, even if it’s unpopular and hidden from public view? Let God turn your gaze from the glitter of the world to the gold of His Word.
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Take 5 Minutes with God today to reflect and ask Him:
- “Lord, what do You want me to know about this today?”
- Journal what He whispers by His Holy Spirit
- Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
- Journal what He whispers – then do it!
Let Him give you true wisdom and wealth as you spend time in His presence..
Prayer:
Lord, give me a hunger for Your Word and Your ways. Free me from the false wisdom of wealth and status. Like David, I ask You to turn my eyes from worthless things and fix them on what is eternal. Let my heart love what You love. Amen.
