Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Daniel 4:1-37, 2 Peter 1:1-21, Psalm 119:97-112, Proverbs 28:17-18
Proclaiming Thanksgiving
“King Nebuchadnezzar sent this message to the people of every race and nation and language throughout the world: ‘Peace and prosperity to you!’” — Daniel 4:1 (NLT)
The story of King Nebuchadnezzar is one of the most astonishing redemptions in Scripture. Once proud and self-exalting, he was humbled by God—driven to live like an animal for “seven periods of time” until he learned that the Most High alone rules over the kingdoms of men.
But what’s truly remarkable is what happens next. When his sanity and kingdom were restored, Nebuchadnezzar didn’t hide his shame—he proclaimed his thanksgiving to the world! His opening line in Daniel 4 is a royal decree to every nation, language, and people: “Peace and prosperity to you!” It was his way of saying, “Look what God has done for me!”
Just as King Nebuchadnezzar publicly proclaimed his thanksgiving to the nations after being restored, Peter also proclaimed his gratitude by continually reminding the Church of God’s power and truth. His letters weren’t just instruction — they were offerings of thanksgiving, written to stir up faith, encourage remembrance, and glorify God.
As Peter said:
“Therefore I will always remind you about these things—even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught. And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live.”
— 2 Peter 1:12–13 (NLT)
And then there’s David — the man after God’s own heart — who gave us an entire book of thanksgiving. The Psalms are filled with declarations of God’s goodness, justice, mercy, and unfailing love. David didn’t just write songs; he proclaimed the truth of who God is, in every circumstance, with raw honesty and unwavering hope.
Their lives became public declarations of thanksgiving — not merely words of thanks, but bold proclamations of who God is and all He has done.
This Thanksgiving, may we follow their example.
Let our lives, our words, our writing, and our worship echo with thanksgiving — so that the world might know the One who restores, redeems, and reigns forever. 💎
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Spend 5 quiet minutes today communing with God and giving Him thanks for all He is and all He does. Proclaim His goodness then ask Him:
- “What do You want me to know about this today, Lord?”
- Journal what He whispers by the Holy Spirit.
- Then ask, “What do you want me to do?”
- Journal what He whispers – then do it!
Let today be a day of Thanksgiving by proclaiming God’s goodness to the world. As you go about your day today find opportunities to share your testimony, give thanks, and speak truth.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your mercy that restores and redeems. Just as You lifted Nebuchadnezzar from the dust and filled Peter with boldness, fill my heart with gratitude that cannot stay silent. Let my thanksgiving proclaim Your goodness to everyone I meet. Amen.
