Fear of the Lord – Standing in Awe of the Ancient of Days

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Daniel 7:1-28, 1 John 1:1-10, Psalm 119:153-176, Proverbs 28:23-24

Trembling In His Presence

“I, Daniel, was troubled in spirit, and the visions that passed through my mind disturbed me… I was terrified by my thoughts, and my face was pale with fear…”
Daniel 7:15, 28

Daniel had seen lions, kings, and kingdoms rise and fall, but in Daniel 7, he witnesses a heavenly vision so overwhelming—so real and so spiritually intense—that it left him pale and trembling. This wasn’t fear of beasts or earthly power… this was the fear of the Lord.

What he saw was glory and terror wrapped together in holy majesty. Thrones ablaze. Rivers of fire. Multitudes standing before the Ancient of Days. Courtroom scenes that make all earthly judges seem like dust. And still, this same God—the Ancient, Eternal, All-Powerful One—loves us.

Oh, if we only grasped how great and powerful our God really is! We wouldn’t take Him lightly. We wouldn’t trade His Word for the world. We wouldn’t minimize His call or flirt with compromise.

We would fall to our knees in awe… if we could even stand at all.

And yet—He loves us. He chooses us. He saves us. The Most High God, whose voice shakes the heavens, has invited us into His presence as beloved children. It’s a love that should never be casual—it’s holy, weighty, breathtaking.

This is what it means to fear the Lord: not a fear that drives us away, but a reverence that draws us close—on our faces, in worship, in awe of His power and in grateful wonder that He wants us near.

When Daniel saw the glory of God’s dominion, it overwhelmed him. But we now behold that same glory in the face of Christ—who loved us enough to die for us and call us His own.

Let us stand in reverence. Let us bow in awe. Let us proclaim with trembling joy:
“The Lord is God, and there is no other like Him!” 💎

Action

Spend time today simply revering God.
Find a quiet place. Sit or kneel. Let your heart meditate on how powerful He is—how worthy He is—and how astonishing it is that He would love you.
Read Daniel 7 slowly, picturing the vision. Then whisper in worship:

“You are the Ancient of Days. You are holy. You are mine.”

Prayer

Lord, You are awesome in power and radiant in holiness. You are more than I can comprehend, and yet You chose to love me. Forgive me for every moment I’ve taken You lightly. Teach me the fear of the Lord—true reverence, holy awe—and draw me close in wonder. Amen.
