Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Daniel 8:1-17, 1 John 2:1-17, Psalm 120:1-7, Proverbs 28:25-26
Jesus Is Our Sacrifice
“It even challenged the Commander of heaven’s army by canceling the daily sacrifices offered to Him and by destroying His temple.”
—Daniel 8:11 (NLT)
The enemy doesn’t just attack the world—he targets the worship. In Daniel’s vision, the rising of an evil ruler resulted in the cancellation of daily sacrifices and the destruction of the temple. This wasn’t just a historical or prophetic event; it’s a picture of what the enemy wants to do in you and me today.
According to 1 John 2:2, Jesus Himself is our daily sacrifice. His blood atones for our sins—not just once, but continually as our Advocate before the Father (1 John 2:1). Every day, we come to Him in faith, in worship, in surrender. This is our living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). But when we allow distractions, sin, or apathy to interfere, we risk “canceling” our daily offering of love and obedience to Him.
The last part of Daniel 8:11 says the temple was destroyed. And where is the temple now? You are.
“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God?” (1 Corinthians 6:19). When we defile our hearts with bitterness, pride, impurity, or worldliness, we invite destruction into the very place Christ came to dwell. When we neglect our physical health, we hinder the vessel He gave us to serve Him. It’s all connected. We were made to be holy, set apart, and available.
John warns us not to love this world or the cravings it offers—because those things are fading fast (1 John 2:15–17). Instead, he calls us to live as Jesus did. That’s your daily worship. That’s your daily sacrifice.
So today, be aware. The enemy still seeks to cancel what Christ continually offers you. But Jesus is still your Advocate. He still pleads for you. And He’s still worthy of your whole heart. 💎
