Love and Surrender: Developing Hinds’ Feet with God

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Habakkuk 1:1-3:19, Revelation 9:1-21, Psalm 137:1-9, Proverbs 30:10

Treading the High Places

“I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guard post. There I will wait to see what the LORD says and how he will answer my complaint.” – Habakkuk 2:1 (NLT)

When I asked the Lord what He wanted me to focus on in today’s One Year Bible reading, His answer surprised me: love and surrender. As I reread Habakkuk chapters 1–3, I saw it clearly woven throughout the entire book.

Habakkuk begins in chapter 1 by crying out to God. He is troubled, confused, and deeply burdened by what he sees around him. Yet even in his lament, his heart reveals something important—God is still his source. He doesn’t turn away. He turns to the Lord. And God responds.

God’s answer is not simple or comfortable. In essence, He says, “Trust Me.” We don’t always see or understand God’s hand at work. Even when He tells us His plan, it can be hard to accept. But if we look closely, we will see Him. If we listen, we will understand. And through it all, we can trust Him.

Then we see Habakkuk move into full surrender. His questions shift: Will You? Should You? Must we? Are they? These are not questions of rebellion, but of a heart yielding control. And this surrender leads him to a powerful declaration:

“I will climb up to my watchtower…”

Climbing is intentional. It requires effort. The watchtower is a separated place—a place of perspective. Not everyone stands there, but God invites His people to it. He gives us access and authority to stand watch, to see differently, to rest in His presence.

Habakkuk says he will standwait, and watch. Waiting requires patience. Watching requires attentiveness. We cannot fall asleep. We cannot leave our post. We wait expectantly—for God and against the enemy. Habakkuk believed God would show up, and he was faithful in the waiting.

And then—the King arrives.

In Habakkuk 2, God answers again. He reveals truth. Truth that teaches, warns, strengthens, and gives understanding. When truth is revealed, perspective changes. Confidence grows. What once confused us begins to make sense.

By Habakkuk 3, the transformation is complete. The prophet rejoices. He is strengthened. God gives him hind’s feet, enabling him to walk confidently on high places—through every circumstance, every situation, and with every person.

And it all began with love and surrender.

When we love God and fully surrender to Him, He will always show up. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take five minutes with God today and ask:

  • Lord, what do You want me personally to know about this today?
    • Journal what He whispers by His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He whispers – then do it!

Let the Lord steady your feet and strengthen your climb today, so you can tread the high places with Him in every circumstance and everyone.

Prayer

Lord, I choose love and surrender today. I climb to the watchtower with You, trusting You even when I don’t understand. Teach me to wait, to watch, and to rejoice in Your truth. Strengthen me and give me steady footing in every situation. I trust You. Amen.
