Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Genesis 5:1-7:24, Matthew 3:7-4:11, Psalm 3:1-8, Proverbs 1:10-19
Will You Enter In?
As we move into Day 3 of a new year and continue our One Year Bible journey, something remarkable unfolds. We have already seen creation, the separation of God and man, and God’s loving caution to protect His children. Now, in Genesis 5 through 7, we are shown that God’s plan of redemption was not an afterthought—it was written into the beginning.
Genesis 4 ends with a quiet but powerful declaration from Eve:
“God has granted me another son in place of Abel, whom Cain killed.”
She recognized that righteousness had been struck down and that wickedness was spreading through Cain’s lineage. Seth became her hope—a new beginning, a line through which God would continue His redemptive work.
As Genesis 5 unfolds, we encounter what many are tempted to skim over: a genealogy. But when we slow down and look closely, we discover something astonishing. Each name in Seth’s lineage carries meaning, and together they form a message—God’s plan of salvation spelled out through generations:
Man
Appointed
Mortal
Sorrow
The Blessed God
Shall come down
Teaching
His death shall bring
The despairing
Rest and comfort
From Adam to Noah, the gospel is already being preached. Before the Law. Before the prophets. Before the cross. God declared that the Blessed God would come down, and through His death bring rest to those weighed down by sorrow.
This message is then demonstrated, not just spoken, through Noah and the ark. Salvation was provided for the righteous—but notice this: they had to enter in. The ark did not save those who stood outside admiring it. It saved those who believed God, obeyed His instruction, and stepped inside.
And this truth carries straight into the New Testament. John the Baptist confronts the religious leaders saying, “Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.” In other words, faith is not a label we claim—it is a life we enter. We cannot stand at a distance and declare ourselves “safe.” We must step into covenant, walk with God daily, and live transformed lives.
God knew we would need salvation. He planned it. He spelled it out. And He provided it—fully and finally—through Jesus Christ.
As the psalmist declares,
“Victory comes from You, O Lord. May You bless Your people.”
From the first pages of Scripture to the saving work of Christ, God has been faithful to bring His people safely home. Will you enter in? 💎

Prayer
Father God, thank You for planning my salvation from the very beginning. Thank You for loving me enough to provide a way when I could not save myself. Forgive me for the times I have stood at a distance instead of stepping fully into what You have prepared for me. Today, I choose to enter in. I choose faith, obedience, and covenant with You. Teach me to walk with You daily, to trust You completely, and to live a life that reflects true repentance and love for You. I surrender myself to Your plan and Your care. Lead me safely home. In Jesus’ name, amen.
