Believing God, Not Just Believing In Him

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Genesis 11:1-13:4, Matthew 5:1-26, Psalm 5:1-12, Proverbs 1:24-28

Faith Begins With Knowing

It’s one thing to believe in God, but it’s another to actually believe God. Belief is relational—it grows out of knowing His heart. The people at Babel believed God existed, but they didn’t trust Him. They feared the future, relied on their own strength, and tried to secure themselves apart from Him. Their unity was built on self-preservation, not faith. But Abraham was different. He had a relationship with his Creator. He listened, walked with Him, learned His character, and trusted Him. Even when Abraham faltered, God remained faithful—because covenant rests on who God is, not on human perfection.

Genesis shows us this contrast clearly. Babel represents mistrust and self-reliance; Abraham represents trust born from relationship. God calls Abraham out, enters covenant with him, and promises blessing—not because Abraham was flawless, but because he was willing to follow. And even when Abraham wandered, God brought him back to the place of covenant. God does not abandon those who trust Him; He patiently leads them back.

Jesus echoes this same truth in Matthew 5. In the Sermon on the Mount, He calls people beyond surface obedience into heart-level righteousness. He reveals that true faith flows from relationship—not external compliance. Jesus teaches that anger, lust, pride, and division begin in the heart, and only a transformed heart can live in God’s kingdom. This is not about striving harder; it is about surrendering to trust deeper.

God has always desired relationship over performance. He calls, teaches, warns, and invites—not to withhold from us, but to protect us and bless us. Yet Scripture also reminds us that His invitation can be ignored. “I called and you did not answer; I reached out and you paid no attention.” (Proverbs 1:24) This is not the voice of a harsh judge—it is the grief of a loving Father who longs to be known.

God is still calling today—not to control you, but to walk with you. He does not ask you to trust what you do not know. He invites you to know Him, so you can trust Him. The question is not whether God is faithful. The question is simple and deeply personal:

Will you answer His call?
Will you choose to trust Him?

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take a quiet moment today and honestly ask God to reveal His heart to you. Ask Him:.

  • Lord, what do You want me personally to know about this today?
    • Journal what He whispers by His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He whispers – then do it!

Let today be a day deeper surrender that leads to deep intimacy and trust with your Creator.

Prayer

Lord, I want to know You, not just know about You. Teach me Your heart so I can trust You fully. Where I’ve relied on my own strength or understanding, gently lead me back to You. Help me answer Your call with faith, humility, and obedience. I choose You today. Amen.
