Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Genesis 31:17-32:12, Matthew 10:24-11:6, Psalm 13:1-6, Proverbs 3:16-18
Remembering His Promises
In Genesis 32:9–12, Jacob finds himself afraid. Esau is coming toward him with four hundred men, and Jacob does not know what awaits him. But instead of running, scheming, or spiraling into panic, Jacob does something profoundly wise—he prays.
Jacob begins by turning to God and reminding Him of His own words. Not because God has forgotten, but because Jacob needs to remember. He recalls God’s command to return home and God’s promise to prosper and protect him. In the face of fear, Jacob anchors himself to truth.
Then Jacob does something else that is just as important—he thanks God. He acknowledges that he is unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness God has shown him. Gratitude grounds the heart. It shifts our focus from what we fear to what God has already done.
Only then does Jacob name his fear plainly: “I am afraid.” He does not hide it. He does not spiritualize it away. He brings it into the light before God. Fear loses power when it is confessed instead of carried alone.
Jacob asks for help, for deliverance, for favor. He asks God to keep His word. And he ends his prayer exactly where he began—by repeating God’s promise again. This repetition is not for God’s benefit; it is for Jacob’s strength. These promises become his pile of stones—a memorial he can stand on when the waves of fear try to knock him down.
This is how faith stands firm:
We turn to God.
We remember His promises.
We thank Him for who He is and what He has done.
We confess our fear.
We ask for strength, faith, and peace.
And we stand again on His word.
“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.” – Hebrews 10:23 (NLT)
Fear may rise—but promises hold. 💎
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Today, take 5 minutes to faithfully seek God. Ask Him:
- “Lord, what do You want me to know specifically about this today?”
- Journal what He whispers by His Holy Spirit.
- Then ask Him, “Now, what do You want me to do?”
- Journal what He whispers – then do it!
Let today be a day of remembering God’s promises and standing on them with confidence.
Prayer
Lord, when fear rises in my heart, help me turn to You first. Remind me of Your promises and steady me with truth. Thank You for all You have done and for who You are. I confess my fears to You and ask for Your strength, faith, and peace so I will not waver. Help me stand firm on Your word. Amen.
