Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Genesis 35:1-36:43, Matthew 12:1-21, Psalm 15:1-5, Proverbs 3:21-26
God Always Keeps His Promises
Confidence in God is not confidence in ease—it is confidence in who He is and what He has promised. Jacob’s life reminds us that trusting God through fear and hardship is often the hardest part of faith, yet it is also where God proves Himself most faithful.
In Genesis 35:3, Jacob calls his family to return to Bethel, the place where God first met him and answered his prayers. Jacob does this with assurance, because he knows God has been with him wherever he has gone. That confidence leads to obedience. Jacob removes every trace of idolatry from his household and teaches his family that there is only one true God.
As they set out in obedience, God does what would be impossible for human strength alone. Scripture tells us that God sends a terror upon the surrounding people, protecting Jacob and his family along the journey. Jacob does not defend himself—God does.
When they arrive, Jacob builds an altar and worships. Gratitude and obedience go hand in hand. Because of his faithfulness, God appears to Jacob again and blesses him further, confirming the identity and calling God had spoken over his life. Jacob is no longer defined by who he was—he is a changed man walking in God’s promise.
Yet faithfulness does not shield Jacob from pain. Along the way, his beloved wife Rachel dies in childbirth. Later, Jacob faces betrayal within his own family—not because love is absent, but because sin and temptation still exist in a broken world. Jacob’s journey includes grief, fear, and loss.
Still, he remains faithful.
Jacob continues trusting God through hardship and uncertainty, and God never leaves him. Again and again, God shows up, blesses him, and keeps His promises. Jacob’s story reminds us that God’s faithfulness is not proven by a pain-free life, but by His presence and provision through every season.
Stay faithful through the hard times and through fear. God will never leave you. As you continue to walk in faith, He will continue to show up for you, bless you, and bring to pass every promise He has spoken over your life. 💎
