Let God Manage The Field
“‘Should we pull out the weeds?’ they asked. ‘No,’ he replied, ‘you’ll uproot the wheat if you do. Let both grow together until the harvest.” – Matthew 13:28-30 (NLT)
In Matthew 13, Jesus tells a story about a field where wheat and weeds grow together. When the servants notice the weeds, they want to pull them out right away. That makes sense to us—we like quick fixes and clean results. But the master says no. He explains that pulling the weeds too soon would also damage the wheat.
That tells us something important about God.
God cares deeply about protecting what is growing. He knows that the roots are tangled together beneath the surface. If everything that looks bad were removed right away, good things would be harmed too. People would be hurt. Faith would be damaged. Growth would be cut short.
It’s easy to think of this parable as good people and bad people. But real life isn’t that simple. Families are mixed. Churches are mixed. Communities are mixed. And honestly—our own hearts are mixed sometimes too.
God also sees something we don’t: not everyone who looks like a “weed” is finished yet. Some people are still growing and changing. Some are still learning. Some are one encounter away from repentance. If God removed everyone who looked bad too early, many stories of redemption would never happen.
This is comforting for us as the wheat.
God is patient with your growth. He doesn’t rush you. He doesn’t demand instant perfection. Some things He allows to stay for a season—not because He approves of them, but because removing them too soon would harm what He’s growing in you.
Here’s another thought. When plants grow close together, they share the same soil, water, and sunlight. Being close to what is healthy can bring change. Sometimes God allows people to stay in the field because being near truth, love, and faith gives them time to change.
God hasn’t forgotten about the weeds. He promises a harvest. Justice will come at the right time. Until then, His focus is clear: protect the wheat, allow growth, and don’t damage or uproot anyone.
Our job isn’t to judge, fix, or remove. Our job is to stay rooted, grow toward the light, and trust God with the timing. 💎
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Today, when you feel the urge to judge, fix, or rush a process—pause. Ask God how He wants you to stay rooted and growing, and trust Him to handle what you cannot.
Today, take 5 minutes to intentionally seeking God’s presence. As you kneel before Him, ask:
- “What do You want me to know about this today, Lord?”
- Journal what He whispers by His Holy Spirit.
- Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
- Journal what He whispers – then do it!
Let today be a day staying rooted and growing in Him, trusting He will handle what you cannot.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for Your patience with me. Help me trust Your timing and rest in Your care. Teach me to grow where You’ve planted me and to nourish those around me. Give me new perspective and understanding so I can leave judgment and outcomes in Your hands, where they belong. Amen.
