Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Exodus 12:14-13:16, Matthew 20:29-21:22, Psalm 25:16-22, Proverbs 6:12-15
Jesus is the Lamb
In Exodus 12:14–13:16, God gave Israel detailed instructions for observing the Passover. This was not just about their deliverance from Egypt—it was a prophetic picture of the greatest act of redemption the world would ever know: the atonement of Jesus Christ.
God commanded that this feast be remembered from generation to generation. It was to be taught to their children and celebrated continually. In the same way, we are called to live in constant gratitude for what Jesus did for us on the cross. Our faith is not meant to be forgotten or treated casually. It is meant to be remembered, honored, and celebrated.
For seven days, Israel was to eat unleavened bread. Leaven represents sin, and seven represents completeness. God was showing them that a redeemed life is meant to be made whole—free from sin and set apart for Him. Through Jesus, we are made complete. Through Him, we are empowered to walk in holiness.
This covenant was not only for Israel, but for foreigners living among them. Anyone willing to enter covenant was welcome. This reminds us that salvation through Jesus is offered to all. No one is excluded. No one is beyond reach. All who are willing to come may be covered by His blood.
The elders were responsible for administering the blood on the doorposts. Today, God uses pastors, leaders, and faithful believers to carry and proclaim the Gospel, pointing people to the saving blood of Jesus and to baptism, repentance, and new life.
God also instructed the people not to leave their homes until morning. They were to remain under His protection. This teaches us that safety is found in staying close to Him. When we step outside His covering, we expose ourselves to spiritual danger. But when we remain in Christ, we are secure in eternal life.
God promised that when they entered the land, they were to continue this practice. This covenant was everlasting. In the same way, the work of Jesus covers us forever. His blood does not expire. His grace does not fade.
When the people heard these instructions, they bowed down and worshiped. Then they obeyed. True worship always leads to obedience. And obedience always leads to freedom.
Through deliverance, God restored what had been stolen—identity, hope, peace, joy, and purpose. He still does the same today.
Later, in Matthew 21, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey. The people were gathered, waiting for the priest to return from releasing the scapegoat. Instead, Jesus came in as our scapegoat. Without saying a word, He declared Himself as the Messiah, the Lamb of God who would take away the sins of the world.
Jesus is our Passover Lamb.
Because of Him, we are covered.
Because of Him, we are free.
Because of Him, we are made whole.
May we live every day in humble gratitude, continual worship, and joyful obedience to our Savior.
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Take a 5 minutes today to thank Jesus for being your Passover Lamb. Reflect on what He has delivered you from and what He has restored in your life. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas where compromise or “leaven” has crept in, and surrender them to Him. Ask Him:
- “What do You want me to know about this today, Lord?”
- Journal what He whispers by His Holy Spirit.
- Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
- Journal what He whispers – then do it!
Commit again today to walk in holiness, gratitude, and obedience under His covering.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Passover Lamb. Thank You for covering me with Your blood, setting me free, and making me whole. I choose to remain under Your protection and walk in obedience to You. Cleanse my heart from anything that does not honor You. Teach me to live in continual gratitude and worship. Help me to reflect Your love and truth to others. I belong to You, now and forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
