Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Leviticus 7:28-9:6, Mark 3:31-4:25, Psalm 37:12-29, Proverbs 10:5
Becoming God’s Priests
During worship this morning, the Lord whispered:
“True love requires sacrifice.”
Then He showed me:
The Father sacrificed the Son.
The Son willingly sacrificed Himself.
In a godly marriage, husband and wife sacrifice for one another.
Love is not self-centered.
Love gives.
Love lays itself down.
And that is exactly what the sacrifices in Leviticus reveal! Suddenly it all made sense. I knew He did it all because He loves us, but this was new perspective and understanding. The sacrifices established by God are not rituals of wrath – they are demonstrations of covenant love…because true love requires sacrifice.
The five sacrifices show us the pattern of returning to God — and the heart behind it.
1️⃣ Burnt Offering — Surrender
Complete dedication. Nothing held back.
Love begins with giving yourself fully.
2️⃣ Grain Offering — Gratitude
Thanksgiving to God.
Love recognizes and responds with honor.
3️⃣ Peace Offering — Fellowship
A shared meal with God.
Love restores communion.
4️⃣ Sin Offering — Cleansing
Confession removes what disrupts relationship.
Love does not ignore wrongdoing.
5️⃣ Guilt Offering — Restoration
Repentance repairs what was broken.
Love makes things right.
And then comes Leviticus 8.
The ram of ordination. This really stood out to me. Once we have made the “sacrifices” and walked through the redeeming steps to come into close relationship with the Lord He adopts us in, claims us as His own, and gives us His keys to the Kingdom – His priesthood power. This is given to all who receive the Holy Spirit. This is the same Holy Spirit Jesus had when he performed miracles on earth and He said, “even greater things then these will you do.”
But there is symbolism in the ordination too. Aaron and his sons are marked with blood on:
| Body Part Marked | What It Means | Our Response |
|---|---|---|
| 👂 Right Ear | What you hear belongs to God | Listen |
| ✋ Right Thumb | What you do belongs to God | Obey |
| 👣 Right Big Toe | Where you walk belongs to God | Follow |
This is not random. It is covenant love. They are basically saying:
“My hearing belongs to You.”
“My work belongs to You.”
“My walk belongs to You.”
The Hebrew word millu’im comes from the root:
מָלֵא (male’) — “to fill.”
Ordination literally means:
👉 “The filling.”
👉 “To fill the hands.”
So when priests were ordained, their hands were “filled.” Ordination means “to fill the hands.” What were they filled with? Sacrifice. Responsibility. Calling. Authority.
Ordination wasn’t a title ceremony, it was a filling ceremony! Today, because of Jesus we are “filled” too – filled with His Holy Spirit. It still carries sacrifice, responsibility, calling, and authority but it is all centered in love. He loves us so He gives it all. We love Him so we give our all. It is a beautiful exchange that creates balance and peace.
These sacrifices in Leviticus lead somewhere → They lead to belonging, to priesthood, to love lived out in obedience.
True love requires sacrifice.
The Father gave the Son.
The Son gave Himself.
And now we give ourselves in return.
Not to earn love… but because we have received it. What are you willing to give for Him? 💎
