Forgiveness: The Key to Freedom and Healing

Today’s One Year Bible Verses:Numbers 8:1-9:23, Mark 13:14-37, Psalm 50:1-23, Proverbs 10:29-30

Let Go and Take My Hand

This morning I asked the Lord what He wanted me to talk about, and this is what He said:

“Unforgiveness is the reason most people get stuck and find themselves afflicted. If you will not forgive, how can I help you? I can only do as much as you will allow Me to do in your life. If you hold on to things that aren’t Me, then how can I stay? I will slip away from your grasp because it now clings to those things—things of darkness.

I will fight to the very ends of eternity for you, but you have to want Me to. You have to cling to Me instead. Forgiveness is letting go of those things and holding on to Me instead.

They will leave you and slip away once you do this—never to return, never to haunt you or torment you again. They will slip away into the sea of forgetfulness. You just have to choose to let go. That’s all it takes—let go and take My hand instead.

I will carry you, guide you, heal you. Amen.”

As I read this, I wondered how it connected to the daily Bible reading. Then the Lord showed me something.

When the Israelites were in the wilderness, God was in their midst. He dwelled among them and made His presence known by a cloud that covered the tabernacle. At night, the cloud appeared as a pillar of fire. He was their covering by day, protecting them from the scorching desert heat, and a pillar of fire by night to warm and guide them.

Whenever the cloud moved, they were to pack up their things and move with it.

But imagine if they had clung to Egypt. God would have moved on without them, and they would have remained in darkness.

Imagine if they had clung to the things of the desert. Again, He would have moved on without them, leaving them behind.

In the same way, God’s Spirit is here with us.

Will we cling to Him tightly and follow wherever He leads—allowing Him to be our covering, our warmth, and our light?

Or will we cling to other things?

Worldly possessions.
Traditions of men.
Old wounds.
Offenses.
Unforgiveness.

Whatever it may be, we simply have to let it go.

God promises that when we cling to Him, He will be our God. He will uphold us with His righteous right hand. He will be our strength and protection. He will deliver us from evil and heal every part of us.

We may think there is no way we can forgive, but He is not asking us to do it on our own.

All He is asking is that we choose Him and let it go—give it to Him.

He will take care of the rest.

He will remove it.
He will free us from its torment.
He will heal the pain it carried.
He will bring us out of darkness and into His light.

Proverbs 10:30 reminds us:

“The godly will never be disturbed, but the wicked will be removed from the land.” (NLT)

If we cling to Him, we will never have to live disturbed by the pain and darkness of sin, the world, or unforgiveness.

But if we cling to those things instead, we slowly slip away from Him and remove ourselves from His presence.

Choose Him today.

Let go of anything you are holding on to that is not Him.

He will take care of the rest and make your life sweet and beautiful with Him.

Action

Ask the Lord to show you if there is anything you are still holding on to—an offense, hurt, or bitterness that is keeping your heart tied to the past. Ask Him:

  • Lord, what do You want me to know about this?
    • Journal what He whispers to you by His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask Him, “What do You want me to do?
    • Journal everything He reveals to you – then do it!

Make the decision today to release all of it to Him. Let go and take hold of His hand instead, trusting Him to heal what you cannot fix on your own.

Prayer

Lord, I choose You today. If there is anything in my heart that I am holding on to that is not from You, help me release it. Give me the courage to forgive and the humility to let go of every hurt, offense, and bitterness. I take Your hand instead and trust You to carry me, guide me, and heal every place that still hurts. Thank You for bringing me out of darkness and into Your light. I thank You and praise You, Lord. Amen.
