Be Filled, Then Feed My Sheep

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Deuteronomy 9:1-10:22, Luke 8:4-21, Psalm 69:19-36, Proverbs 12:2-3

Eat The Bread of Life

This morning the Holy Spirit said to me,

“There are so many suffering in this world. Will you help them or contribute to the suffering by your actions? Build up My storehouses so My people can eat the Bread of Life daily and never go hungry… Come to the Source and be filled, then feed My sheep.”

What a Gem of Knowledge to sit with and contemplate (that’s my word for this year, so I’m holding onto it 😊).

There are so many people suffering right now.

Not just physically, but spiritually. People are hungry—for truth, for peace, for something real that actually satisfies. And today, the Lord asked a question that really stopped me:

Will you help them, or contribute to the suffering by your actions?

That’s not something we usually think about. We tend to assume that if we’re not doing harm, then we must be doing good. But what if simply staying disconnected, distracted, or too busy to spend time with Him leaves us empty… and with nothing to give when someone around us is starving? Because if He isn’t truly our first priority like He instructed yesterday, we slowly drift from the very Source that fills us.

In Luke 8, Jesus tells the parable of the sower. The seed is the Word of God, and the condition of the soil determines what happens next. Some hear it, but it never takes root. Others receive it for a moment, but it doesn’t last. But the good soil—those who truly receive it, hold onto it, and let it grow—produce a harvest.

That means if the Word isn’t taking root in us, there won’t be any fruit coming from us.

A few verses later, Jesus says no one lights a lamp and then hides it. What is received is meant to be revealed. It’s meant to be seen. Shared. Given.

And that’s the pattern we see all throughout Scripture. In Deuteronomy 10, God reminds His people that everything they have comes from Him, not from their own strength. It’s a call to stay humble and to stay connected, because the moment we start relying on ourselves, we begin to run dry.

Psalm 69 shows us what to do when we feel overwhelmed or empty. David doesn’t pull away—he presses in. “But I keep praying to You, Lord…” (Psalm 69:13 NLT). He goes straight to the Source.

And that’s really the heart of this whole message.

You can’t feed others if you’re not being fed.

You won’t have the strength, the patience, or even the desire to give if you’re running on empty. But when you come to Him first—when you sit with Him, open His Word, and let it settle into your heart—something begins to change.

Your perspective shifts.
Your heart softens.
Compassion starts to grow.

And instead of feeling drained by people, you begin to feel moved by them.

Because now you’re not giving from your own limited strength—you’re giving from what He’s poured into you.

That’s what it means to “build up His storehouses.”

Not adding to Him, but becoming someone He can flow through.

Someone who stays close enough to the Source that there is always something to give.

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take a few minutes and come to the Source. Ask Him:

  • Lord, what do You want me to know about this today?
    • Journal what He reveals
  • Then ask Him, “What do You want me to do?
    • Journal what He whispers – then do it!

Let today be a day od infilling with Him then be willing to share what He gives you.

Prayer

Father,
Thank You for being my Source. Forgive me for the times I’ve tried to live, give, or serve without first coming to You.

Fill me with Your Word and Your presence. Let it take root in my heart and produce real fruit in my life.

Give me eyes to see those who are hungry and hurting around me. Fill me so that I can pour out. Let compassion and mercy grow in me as I spend time with You.

I don’t want to contribute to the suffering by staying empty—I want to be part of what You are doing to bring life, truth, and hope to others.

Fill me, Lord… so I can help feed Your sheep.

In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
