Making Time For God
What matters to you most?
We invest our time in what matters to us. We make time for our families, work, hobbies, entertainment, projects, and the people we love. We can spend twenty minutes scrolling without realizing it, watch another episode even though it’s getting late, or rearrange an entire day when something is important enough.
Then somehow we tell ourselves we don’t have time to spend with God.
Today the Lord asks a question that gets right to the heart of it in this Gem of Knowledge:
“To seek Me, focus on Me, and have a Kingdom mindset, you must invest yourself and your time. Will you? Aren’t I worth it?”
Aren’t I worth it?
That question isn’t about checking off another Christian responsibility. God isn’t asking us to squeeze fifteen minutes of Bible reading into an already overcrowded schedule so we can say we did it.
He’s asking for us.
Our attention. Our thoughts. Our willingness to sit with Him, listen to Him, learn from Him, worship Him, talk to Him, and allow Him to become part of the ordinary moments of our lives.
Because a Kingdom mindset doesn’t just happen.
Romans 12:2 tells us to let God transform us by changing the way we think. If most of what fills our minds comes from the world around us, we shouldn’t be surprised when we begin thinking like the world around us. What we continually give our attention to eventually influences the way we think.
Today’s reading from Isaiah gives us a sobering picture of what happens when God’s people drift away from Him. Isaiah describes people becoming consumed with possessions, appearance, pride, wealth, and the things they had built with their own hands. They still belonged to God, but their attention had wandered.
And attention matters.
Paul shows the same concern in 2 Corinthians. He tells the believers, “I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted” (2 Corinthians 11:3 NLT).
That word undivided stands out to me.
There are so many things competing for our attention every day. None of them necessarily have to be bad. Work needs our attention. Families need our attention. Homes need to be cared for. Responsibilities are real.
But God doesn’t want to become someone we occasionally visit when everything else is finished.
He wants a relationship with us.
And relationships require investment.
You cannot deeply know someone you rarely spend time with. The same is true with God. If we want to recognize His voice, understand His ways, develop a Kingdom mindset, and grow in intimacy with Him, we have to actually spend time with Him.
Not because we’re earning His love – Because He’s worth knowing.
The beautiful thing is that time with God doesn’t always have to look like sitting alone with an open Bible for an hour. We can talk with Him while driving, worship while cleaning the house, pause during the day to listen, meditate on something He showed us that morning, or simply become more aware of His presence while we’re doing ordinary life.
But there also needs to be time when He gets our undivided attention—when the phone goes down, the noise stops, and we’re not trying to accomplish anything except being with Him.
The more we focus on Him, the more our thinking begins to change. Things that once seemed incredibly important may lose their grip on us. Kingdom things begin to matter more. We become more aware of people, purpose, obedience, eternity, and what God is doing around us.
That’s not something we can rush.
We have to invest ourselves.
Don’t ask yourself, “Do I have enough time for God?”
Ask, “Is He important enough for me to make the time?”
He already decided you were worth pursuing.
Now He’s asking,
“Aren’t I worth it?” 💎
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Take at least 5 minutes to be with the Lord today. Ask Him:
- “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
- Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
- Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
- Journal what He reveals – then do it!
Look honestly at where your time and attention are going. Is there something you could give a little less attention to so you can give God more?
Prayer
Dear Lord, You are worth my time, my attention, and my whole heart. Forgive me for the times I’ve allowed everything else to receive my attention while giving You whatever was left over. I want to know You more deeply and learn to see life from Your Kingdom perspective. Help me invest myself in our relationship, not out of obligation, but because I love You and You are worth knowing. Change the way I think as I spend time with You, and teach me to carry Your presence into every part of my day. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
