The Message They Don’t Know They Need

Have you ever felt God put something on your heart to share, and almost immediately started talking yourself out of it?

What if people think I’m weird? What if they don’t understand? What if I say it wrong? What if nobody wants to hear it?

I know I have. Sometimes receiving something from God is easier than having the courage to share it. But today He reminded me:

“Don’t be afraid of the things I have given you. These are things everyone must hear—even if they don’t know it yet. Amen.”

Hmmm… “even if they don’t know it yet.”

People don’t always recognize what they need. Sometimes we avoid truth because it makes us uncomfortable. Sometimes we’re so accustomed to the way we’ve always thought or lived that we don’t realize God has something better to show us. And sometimes we simply aren’t looking for Him at all.

That doesn’t mean we should force what God gives us onto people. But neither should fear keep us silent when He asks us to share.

Today’s reading in Isaiah gives an interesting picture of this. Isaiah was entrusted with messages that weren’t always easy for people to hear. Some brought warning and correction, while others brought incredible hope. Isaiah 25:8 declares that God “will swallow up death forever” and “wipe away all tears.” (NLT)

Imagine keeping a promise like that to yourself because you were afraid someone might reject it.

The message God gives us isn’t always comfortable, but if it truly comes from Him, there is a reason He gave it. It may encourage someone, correct something, plant a seed, answer a question, or introduce someone to a truth they didn’t even know they were searching for.

Paul explains in today’s Galatians reading that God’s law revealed humanity’s need for a Savior, and then points us toward the promise received through faith in Jesus Christ. People needed to understand their need before they could fully appreciate the answer God had provided.

Sometimes truth shows us a need we didn’t know we had.

Of course, this doesn’t mean everything we think or feel should automatically be announced as a message from God. We should continue testing what we believe we’re hearing against Scripture and seeking His wisdom about what to share, how to share it, and when.

But once we have done that, fear of people’s reactions shouldn’t be the thing that decides whether we obey.

Psalm 61:2 says, “Lead me to the towering rock of safety.” (NLT) Our security isn’t found in everyone agreeing with us or understanding us. It’s found in Him.

Maybe God has given you a testimony, a word of encouragement, something you’ve learned in Scripture, or simply the truth of what Jesus has done in your life.

Don’t assume nobody needs to hear it.

Someone may need what God has entrusted to you—even if they don’t know it yet. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take 5 minutes to be with the Lord today. Ask Him:

• “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
  • Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
• Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
  • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Today, don’t let fear stop you from obeying.

Prayer

Dear Father, thank You for trusting me with the things You teach and show me. Help me carefully discern what comes from You and give me wisdom about when and how to share it. Keep me from allowing fear of people’s opinions or reactions to silence me when You ask me to speak. Let everything I share point people toward You – Your truth, Your love, and Jesus. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
