Today’s One Year Bible Reading: Ezekiel 7:1–9:11, Hebrews 5:1–14, Psalm 105:1–15, Proverbs 26:28
The Joy Is in the Journey
Have you ever wished life could be just a little easier? That the road ahead would straighten out, the obstacles would disappear, and you could finally enjoy a season without so many challenges? I think we all have! But what if the twists, turns, mountains, and valleys aren’t simply obstacles to overcome? What if they’re part of the very experience God intends for us to enjoy as we walk through life with Him?
This morning, the Holy Spirit gave me a beautiful Gem of Knowledge that offers a different perspective on the journey of life. He whispered,
“The path of righteousness twists and turns with valleys and mountains as well. But this is the eternal joy of life: to experience it all and succeed with Me. Amen.”
Notice that He didn’t promise a straight, smooth path. Even the path of righteousness has mountains to climb and valleys to walk through. Following Jesus doesn’t exempt us from life’s difficulties, but it does mean we never have to face them alone.
And perhaps that’s where we sometimes get it wrong. We become so focused on reaching the destination, overcoming the challenge, or getting through a difficult season that we forget to experience the joy of walking with God along the way.
Psalm 105:4 (NLT) tells us, “Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him.”
Continually! Not just when we’re struggling or need direction, but in every moment and every season. And perhaps there’s a purpose in the changing terrain of our lives. The mountains we climb build our strength and endurance. The twists and turns teach us to be more agile, alert, and attentive to God’s direction. And the valleys? They remind us to look up, lifting our eyes toward the One who is always there to help us. Every part of the journey offers an opportunity to grow in wisdom, deepen our faith, and draw closer to Him. Even the difficult stretches can become blessings when we allow God to teach us through them.
Today’s reading in Hebrews 5:8 reminds us that even Jesus learned obedience through the things He suffered. Think about that! Jesus, who lived a perfectly righteous life, still experienced hardship, suffering, and sacrifice. Yet He remained obedient to the Father and fulfilled His purpose.
If we measure success by how comfortable or trouble-free our lives are, we may completely misunderstand what it means to succeed with God.
Success in His Kingdom isn’t necessarily about reaching the highest mountain, avoiding every valley, or accomplishing everything we planned. It’s about remaining faithful, growing in wisdom, learning obedience, and allowing Him to shape us through every experience.
In today’s reading, Ezekiel witnessed the devastating consequences of a people who had turned away from God. They had chosen their own way rather than walking in His righteousness. What a sobering reminder that the path we choose matters! God’s way may not always be the easiest, but it is always the path that leads us closer to Him.
I especially love the words in today’s Gem, “to experience it all and succeed with Me.”
Not simply to survive it all, but to experience it! To laugh, love, learn, grow, overcome, and even discover His goodness in the midst of sorrow. To embrace the life we’ve been given while trusting the One who walks beside us.
And notice, He didn’t say succeed for Me. He said succeed with Me.
What a beautiful invitation! Our Heavenly Father doesn’t simply send us down a road and wait at the finish line. He wants to share the journey with us.
So wherever you find yourself today, whether climbing a mountain, walking through a valley, or navigating an unexpected turn, remember that the joy of life isn’t found in having a perfect path. It’s found in experiencing every step with the One who created you and loves you. 💎
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Take 5 minutes to be with the Lord today. Ask Him:
- “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
- Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
- Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
- Journal what He reveals – then do it!
Take a moment to consider the season you’re walking through right now. Instead of asking God only to change your circumstances, ask Him what He wants you to experience and learn through them. Look for opportunities to enjoy His presence, trust His guidance, and grow closer to Him along the way.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of life and the privilege of walking through it with You. Forgive me for the times I’ve been so focused on reaching my destination that I’ve missed the joy of Your presence along the way. Help me embrace every season, trust You through the valleys, celebrate with You on the mountaintops, and remain faithful through every unexpected turn. Teach me to find my success not in my circumstances, but in walking closely with You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
