Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Numbers 6:1-7:89, Mark 12:38-13:13, Psalm 49:1-20, Proverbs 10:27-28
Consecration or Corruption
“The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.”
— Numbers 6:24–26 (NLT)
As humans, we often have a tendency to overcomplicate things.
When we read about the Nazirite vow in Numbers 6, our natural reaction is to focus on what someone would have to give up. No wine. No grapes. No cutting their hair. No contact with the dead.
Our minds immediately go to the restrictions.
But what if the point isn’t what is being given up — but what is being gained?
It seems natural to desire celebration, pleasure, and earthly enjoyment. Yet sometimes pride quietly slips in and makes us think first about what we would lose if we surrendered something to God.
But what blessings might flow if we did?
In the full scope of life, not eating grapes or cutting your hair really isn’t that big of a sacrifice. And who would want to touch a dead body anyway? God has already given us so much in this life to enjoy and be satisfied. Yet we still struggle with surrendering even the smallest things.
The Nazirite vow wasn’t really about grapes or hair.
It was about the heart.
It was someone saying to God, “I set myself apart for You.”
And God responds with a blessing that reveals His heart in return:
“The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.”
What more could we ask for?
This kind of consecration leads to a face-to-face relationship with God.
When we set ourselves apart for Him, He turns His face toward us.
And oh, how wonderful that is!
Yesterday in Numbers 5 we saw the picture of corruption growing inside a heart that was unfaithful. Today in Numbers 6 we see the opposite — a life devoted to God.
What a contrast.
Every one of us will eventually stand at that same fork in the road and must choose which path we will walk.
Corruption or consecration.
Thankfully, Jesus makes the choice simple.
When we choose Him, everything that stands in our way — temptation, addiction, pride, fear — can be overcome through the power of His name. He strengthens us and breaks the chains that once held us captive.
When we dedicate our lives to Him, a new journey begins.
Step by step He becomes our guide and protector.
If we keep our eyes on Him, we no longer need to fear what surrounds us. Our focus shifts from the threats around us to the Savior leading us forward.
And when He is all we see, peace fills our hearts as He leads us safely home. 💎
Action (5Minutes with God)
Seek The Lord’s face today, even if for only 5 minutes, and ask Him:
- “Lord, what do you want me to know about this today for myself?”
- Journal what He whispers by His Holy Spirit.
- Then ask, “Lord, what do you want me to do?”
- Journal what He whispers – then do it!
Let today be a day of choosing the path of devotion, trusting that what God gives in return will always be far greater than what we lay down.
Prayer
Lord, I choose You today.
If there is anything in my life that is standing between us, help me surrender it willingly. Give me a heart that longs to be set apart for You. Strengthen me through the power of Jesus’ name to overcome every temptation, distraction, and prideful thought. Turn Your face toward me, Lord, and lead me in Your peace as I follow You step by step.
Amen.
