Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Numbers 10:1-11:23, Mark 14:1-21, Psalm 51:1-19, Proverbs10:31-32
He Hears and Answers
One of the most beautiful truths in Scripture is that God is not silent. He has always made a way for His people to hear Him.
In Numbers 10, God instructed Moses to make two silver trumpets. These trumpets were not merely instruments — they were a system of communication. When the trumpets sounded, the people knew whether to gather, prepare for battle, or begin moving forward.
God didn’t leave His people wandering aimlessly in the wilderness. He guided them. He warned them. He directed them.
“When you arrive in your own land and go to war against your enemies who attack you, sound the alarm with the trumpets. Then the Lord your God will remember you and rescue you from your enemies.”
– Numbers 10:9 (NLT)
From the very beginning, God established something important: He speaks to His people and makes His voice known.
But how we respond to His voice matters.
In Numbers 11, the people complained because they wanted meat instead of the manna God had been providing. God heard them — and He answered.
But the answers were very different depending on the heart that was asking.
The people demanded what they wanted, and God gave it to them — yet it became a curse because their hearts were full of complaint and rebellion.
Meanwhile, Moses cried out honestly because he felt overwhelmed by the responsibility of leading the people. God heard him too, but instead of judgment, God gave him help. The Lord placed His Spirit upon seventy elders to share the burden.
God heard both cries.
One heart demanded.
The other surrendered.
And God answered accordingly.
This truth continues throughout Scripture. God sees the heart behind every action.
In Mark 14, a woman poured expensive perfume on Jesus’ head in an act of deep devotion. Those around her criticized her harshly, saying the perfume should have been sold and the money given to the poor.
But Jesus saw something they didn’t.
He saw her love.
“But Jesus replied, ‘Leave her alone. Why criticize her for doing such a good thing to me?’”
– Mark 14:6 (NLT)
Jesus didn’t just defend her — He honored her.
“I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.”
– Mark 14:9 (NLT)
What others misunderstood, Jesus treasured.
He saw her heart, her faith, and her devotion. And because of that, her act of love has been remembered for generations — exactly as Jesus promised.
God hears His people.
He hears complaints.
He hears cries for help.
He hears quiet acts of devotion that no one else understands.
And most importantly, He answers.
The Psalms remind us of God’s incredible compassion toward us.
“The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust.”
– Psalm 103:13–14 (NLT)
Even though we fall short, God does not turn away from those who come to Him. He forgives, restores, and fills our hearts with joy again.
God is still speaking today.
He warns.
He teaches.
He listens.
And He answers.
But just like the people in the wilderness, we must be willing to listen.
If we will come to Him with open hearts, we will discover something wonderful: God has never stopped speaking to His people. And He wants to speak to you! 💎
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Take 5 quiet minutes today and ask the Lord to help you hear His voice more clearly. Ask Him:
- “Lord, what do You want me to know about this today?”
- Have a piece of paper and pen ready to write the first thing that comes to your mind. Don’t fight or reject it. Just write what immediately comes. When you do, you will see that it truly wasn’t your thought, but His!
- Then ask Him, “Lord, what do You want me to do?”
- Write down what is whispered to you – then do it!
Lay down any complaints, distractions, or fears, and come to Him with a humble heart. Trust that He will answer then simply listen. God will speak in the quiet moments when we make space for Him.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that You are not silent. Thank You for loving us enough to guide us, warn us, teach us, and answer when we call. Help me quiet my heart so I can hear Your voice. Remove any complaining or pride that might keep me from listening. Give me a humble heart like the woman who honored Jesus with her devotion. I want to know You, follow You, and trust Your guidance in my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
