Fruit in Its Season | Learning to Trust God’s Timing

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Numbers 26:1-51, Luke 2:36-52, Psalm 60:1-12, Proverbs 11:15

Establish Your Roots

The Lord spoke something simple but profound to me this morning:

“Fruit is good only when it is in season. Don’t try and force fruit or it becomes bitter or rancid.”

Then He began to explain.

If you try to force someone to produce fruit before they are ready, it will be bitter because they have not matured enough in the Lord to produce sweet fruit. They are still trying to establish their roots, so the fruit is not going to be ready to eat.

In the same way, you cannot force someone to partake of your fruit when they are not ready. They will not be able to taste it the way it truly is, so it will seem bitter or rancid in their mouths and they will reject it.

We must never give fruit—or take fruit—without the guidance of the Lord.

This made me think about truth itself: Jesus and the Word of God.

Even Jesus, the Son of God, had to establish roots.

In Luke 2, Mary and Joseph lost Jesus for three days and finally found Him in the temple. What was He doing? He was sitting among the religious teachers, listening and asking questions.

Even Jesus was learning.

He had to grow.

If He had not first established strong roots, He would not have had the knowledge, understanding, or faith required to do all that was asked of Him. If He had stepped forward too early, people would not have accepted Him—they would have rejected Him as just a child.

Instead, Scripture tells us:

“Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.”
—Luke 2:52 (NLT)

Roots come first.

Then fruit.

And fruit is only sweet when it comes in its proper season.

Sometimes we want to hurry the process. We want fruit now—either in our own lives or in someone else’s. But God knows the right season for everything.

Roots must grow deep before fruit can grow sweet.

So if you feel like you are still establishing roots, do not be discouraged. God is preparing you. He is growing wisdom, understanding, and strength within you.

And if someone is not ready to receive the fruit God has given you, do not force it. Wait for the Lord’s guidance and the proper season.

Because fruit given in its time will nourish and bless.

But fruit forced too early will only be rejected.

Trust the Lord with the season you are in.

He knows when the fruit will be ready. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take 5 minutes to be with God today. Ponder together where you are in your season. Are you still growing roots? Then ask Him:

  • Lord, what do You want me to know about this?”
    • Journal what He reveals to you.
  • Then ask Him, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Embrace the process of growth with the Lord and continue seeking Him for wisdom, understanding, and maturity as your roots grow deeper and deeper in Him.

Prayer

Lord,

Thank You for the seasons You establish in our lives. Thank You that You are patient with us as we grow and mature in You. Help me not to rush what You are doing in my life. If I am still establishing roots, give me wisdom, understanding, and faith as I grow deeper in You. Teach me to trust Your timing. Show me when to share the fruit You are producing in my life and when to wait for the right season. May everything You grow in me be sweet, nourishing, and pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
