The Making of a Gem: Finding True Identity In God

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Deuteronomy 13:1-15:23, Luke 8:40-9:6, Psalm 71:1-24, Proverbs 12:5-7

Polished by His Hands

This morning, the Holy Spirit whispered something so powerful to me… a Gem of Knowledge about being a ‘gem’ for God 😍

He said,

“Because of who I am, you are. Never forget who made you and why. There is great value in your design and I want to make you shine. Amen.”

Your identity is not self-made—it is God-given.

In Deuteronomy 13–15, God warns His people not to be led astray by false voices—even if they seem convincing. Why? Because forgetting who God is will always lead to forgetting who you are.

If they followed other gods, they would lose their identity as His chosen people.

And honestly… we’re no different.

Every lie we believe—every compromise we make—starts with a subtle shift away from truth. Not just truth about God… but truth about ourselves.

Then we step into Luke 8 and 9, and we see something incredible.

A woman who had been bleeding for twelve years touches Jesus—and is instantly healed.
Jesus tells her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well.”

He didn’t just heal her… He restored her identity.
He called her “Daughter”—not what she had been labeled, not what she had suffered… but who she truly was: loved, wanted, accepted, and that she belonged.

Then Jairus’ daughter is raised from the dead—
and what was once lifeless is called back into identity, purpose, and belonging again… just like He does for us when we come to Him.

Like a diamond buried in darkness, unseen and covered by what surrounds it, we can feel hidden, forgotten, or even lost or worthless. But when He reaches down and calls us, He doesn’t just bring us out—He begins a process of revealing the value that was there all along.

Because even when no one else can see it… He sees the hidden beauty within us—and He wants to make us shine.

Then Jesus sends out His disciples with authority to heal and cast out demons.

Do you see the pattern?

  • Restored identity
  • Restored life
  • Released authority

Because of who He is… they became who they were meant to be.

The psalmist declares that God has been his hope and foundation since birth—that he was set apart and sustained by God’s hand.

That’s not random. That’s design and it didn’t happen by accident. David spent time with the Lord—out in the fields, tending sheep, alone with God day after day. That’s where he came to know Him… and that’s why he could stand with confidence and face Goliath without fear.

You were not created accidentally.
You were not designed without purpose.
Your value is greater than rubies.
And you are not meant to live dim, hidden, or defined by lies.

Because of who He is… you are.

Because He is faithful, you can stand secure.
Because He is truth, confusion doesn’t get to define you.
Because He is powerful, you are not helpless.
Because He is love, you are deeply loved.
And because He is light… you were made to shine.

And Proverbs 12 reminds us that the thoughts of the righteous are just—but the wicked are deceptive. In other words, what you believe determines how you live.

Will you believe what He says about you? 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take time to be with the Lord today. Let Him speak truth to you. Ask Him:

  • Where have I forgotten who You are?
    • Journal what He reveals.
  • Where have I believed something about myself that isn’t true?
    • Journal what He reveals.
  • Then ask, “What truth do You say that I am?
    • Journal what He reveals.

Always write down what He shows you. It is so important to have truth to stand on and remember. When you write it down, no lie can steal it. You can go back every time and be reminded of who you really are.

Let this process bring you closer to the Lord as He speaks your true identity to you. Speak that truth out loud. Receive it. Believe it.

Prayer

Dear Father,
Thank You for creating me with purpose and intention. Forgive me for the places where I have forgotten who You are and allowed that to distort how I see myself. Help me to stay anchored in Your truth.

Remind me daily that my identity comes from You—not from the world, not from my past, and not from lies. Refine me, shape me, and bring out the value You placed inside of me. Make me shine in the way You designed.

I trust You with the process. I trust You with my life..
In Jesus’ beautiful name I pray, amen.
