Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Deuteronomy 31:1-32:27, Luke 12:8-34, Psalm 78:32-55, Proverbs 12:21-23
Stop Rushing, Start Hearing
I’m sure you have all heard the saying “patience is a virtue”. Well, this morning the Lord gave me new insight on this principle. He said,
“Be patient in all you do. This enables you to think clearly, speak clearly, act clearly. You will not feel you need to do anything rashly because you aren’t rushed in your mind. Patience.”
What stood out to me about this word is how practical it is. We don’t always think of patience this way. Usually, we think of it as waiting… or enduring something we don’t want to deal with.
But the Lord is showing something different here.
Patience actually protects us.
When we rush, everything gets cloudy. Our thoughts aren’t clear, our words come out wrong, and we end up reacting instead of responding. I’ve definitely seen that in my own life—times where I felt pressure to act quickly, and it didn’t lead to peace. It led to problems.
When I look at Deuteronomy 31–32 today, Moses is speaking to the people before they move into something new. There’s no panic in it. He’s not rushing them forward. He’s reminding them of who God is—faithful, steady, trustworthy.
That’s what allows patience to exist. If God is faithful, then we don’t have to rush ahead trying to make things happen ourselves.
Then in Luke 12, Jesus speaks directly to the part of us that feels anxious and pressured. He tells them not to worry about their life, what they will eat, or what they will wear—but to seek the Kingdom of God above everything else.
That’s such a mind shift!
Because when we’re not trusting God, we feel like everything depends on us. That’s where the urgency comes from. But when we trust Him, we can slow down because we know He’s already providing and already working. Our thinking changes from world to godly. when we seek the Kingdom of God we begin to learn how to walk in His ways, not ours.
Psalm 78 shows the other side of this. The people saw God move over and over again, but they still rushed, doubted, and forgot. Their impatience led them into cycles of reacting instead of trusting.
And honestly, that’s where this hits home for me. Impatience isn’t just about being in a hurry—it’s about not fully trusting God in the moment.
Proverbs 12 says that the wise are careful in how they speak and act. They aren’t quick to react or driven by impulse. There’s a steadiness to them.
That steadiness comes from patience…and patience comes from Presence.
When we sit with Him, we allow Him to breathe new life into us—new thoughts, new perspectives, new understanding. This changes us. It changes how we see the world and others. It allows us to view things from the steadfastness of Christ instead of the crumbling sand that forces us to react… and that pressure doesn’t usually come from God.
God is clear. He’s steady. He doesn’t lead us in confusion or panic. He is the God of peace and clarity.
And when we choose patience through Him things change. Our thoughts settle. We begin to see more clearly. We’re able to speak with intention instead of emotion, and act with wisdom instead of impulse.
You don’t need to rush ahead…
when God is already there. 💎
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Take just 5 minutes to be in God’s Presence today. Ask Him:
- “Lord, what do You want me to know about this today?”
- Journal what He reveals to you by His Holy Spirit.
- Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
- Journal what He reveals – then do it!
Let today be a day of choosing patience – patience with the Lord and patience in your daily walk.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being steady and faithful. Thank You that You are never rushed or uncertain. Help me to trust You in the places where I feel pressure. Show me where I’ve been moving too quickly, and teach me how to slow down and listen. Give me clarity in my thoughts, my words, and my actions. Help me to respond with patience instead of reacting out of urgency. I trust Your timing. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
