The Power of Pondering with God

Todays One Year Bible Verses: Deuteronomy 32:28-52, Luke 12:35-59, Psalm 78:56-64, Proverbs 12:24

Threads of Revelation = Gems

This year, the Lord has been trying to move me into a deeper place of understanding and growth. The word He gave me as my guiding word for this year is “contemplate.”

I can’t say I’ve been very good at it. I get so busy and feel like there is always more to do than I have time for.

So today, when the Lord gave me this Gem, it really made me slow down. He said,

“Think of all the things you could learn if you pondered more. Your chain of thoughts would lead you to all new ideas and concepts, as well as insight and understanding, because you take time to think and ponder.”

We live in such a fast-moving world. Everything is quick—quick decisions, quick reactions, quick opinions. We don’t always take the time to actually sit with something, to think it through, to let it unfold. This has been my struggle.

But the Lord is showing that there is something powerful in pondering.

Not overthinking…
but slowing down enough to let truth sink in and take root.

When I read Deuteronomy 32, Moses is recounting everything God has done and how the people responded. And what stands out to me is this—he says they lacked sense because they didn’t stop to think about it. They didn’t consider what was right in front of them. He said in Deuteronomy 32:29,

“Oh, that they were wise and could understand this! Oh, that they might know their fate!”

They saw… but they didn’t ponder.

And because of that, they missed understanding.

Then in Luke 12, Jesus is speaking about being ready, being aware, being watchful. He’s not calling people to react quickly—He’s calling them to be awake and discerning.

That kind of awareness doesn’t come from rushing.

It comes from paying attention… from thinking… from staying connected to what God is doing and saying…to contemplate.

Psalm 78 continues that pattern. The people experienced God, saw His works, and still turned away.

Why?

Because they didn’t stop to reflect on it. They didn’t let it sink in, so they missed what was most important.

And that’s where this hits for me.

How often do we move from one thing to the next without ever really sitting with what God just did, what He just said, or what He just showed us?

Proverbs 12:24 talks about diligence—about steady, intentional living. And I think pondering is part of that. It’s not passive. It’s purposeful.

If we are willing to work at understanding God—His will and His ways—if we are willing to be intentional about living in His Kingdom instead of just surviving in the flesh, then we will grow wiser, stronger, more faithful, and more effective. This is what develops us into leaders. It shifts us from a slave mentality to a Kingdom mindset.

It’s choosing to slow down and engage your mind with Truth.

When I sit with the Lord and actually take time to think, things begin to change. One thought leads to another. He begins to connect things I hadn’t seen before. Scripture starts to open up. Understanding deepens. Perspective is changed.

It’s like following a thread… and suddenly you realize it’s leading somewhere amazing. This is the heart of revelation from God.

This is where Gems of Knowledge come from.

When we take the time to sit with Him, to think, to ponder… He begins to connect the thoughts. One leads to another, and before you know it, He has revealed something deeper—something you didn’t see before.

Have you been moving too quickly to really hear God?

Have you been reading, listening, experiencing… but not actually stopping to process it?

Insight doesn’t usually come in the rush – It comes in the pause.

Will you pause long enough to follow where He is leading and let Him give you your own gems of knowledge? 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take 5 minutes to be with God today. Ask Him,

  • Lord, what do You want me to know about this today?”
    • Write down what He whispers by His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask Him, “Lord, what do You want me to do?”
    • Write down what He whispers – then do it!

Contemplate what He revealed to you. Let it really sink in. Let Him show you the depths of can be seen it. Let your thoughts follow the thread.

Prayer

Lord, thank You that You are always speaking and always revealing truth. Forgive me for the times I rush past what You are showing me. Teach me to slow down and ponder. Help me to think deeply about Your Word and Your ways. Give me understanding and insight as I take time to sit with You. Open my mind to see what You are revealing. In Jesus’ precious name I pray, amen.
