Today’s One Year Bible Verse: Isaiah 3:1-5:30, 2 Corinthians 11:1-15, Psalm 53:1-6, Proverbs 22:28-29
“Now I will sing for the one I love a song about his vineyard:
My beloved had a vineyard on a rich and fertile hill.
He plowed the land, cleared its stones, and planted it with the best vines…
Then he waited for a harvest of sweet grapes, but the grapes that grew were bitter.
What more could I have done for my vineyard that I have not already done?
When I expected sweet grapes, why did my vineyard give me bitter grapes?”
— Isaiah 5:1–4, NLT
The Lord gave His vineyard everything it needed to thrive—rich soil, careful tending, protection, and provision. He expected sweet fruit, but the grapes turned bitter. God asks a piercing question: “What more could I have done?”
The truth is—nothing more could be done. He has given us everything in Christ. The question now is: what fruit are we producing?
Isaiah continues:
“What sorrow for those who drag their sins behind them with ropes made of lies…
who mock God and say, ‘Hurry up and do something!’…
What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil,
that dark is light and light is dark,
that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.”
— Isaiah 5:18–20, NLT
The imagery is striking. These people are in bondage—dragging their sins like captives bound with “ropes made of lies.” They believe the enemy’s whispers until lies feel like truth. Their wickedness piles up so high they need a cart to haul it, yet they cling to it like treasure.
Why? Because deception has consumed them. They cannot see or hear truth anymore—this is the reprobate mind. Their fruit is bitter.
But God has given us a choice: sweet or bitter. If we surrender our sins and walk in truth, He promises:
“Then the Lord will provide shade for Mount Zion… a canopy of cloud during the day and smoke and flaming fire at night… It will be a shelter from daytime heat and a hiding place from storms and rain.”
— Isaiah 4:5–6, NLT
This is the safety of living in His vineyard. Sweet fruit flows from surrendered lives.
Action (5 minutes) — Release the Cart
Declare aloud (slowly):
- “Lord, I refuse to drag my sins any longer.” (Isaiah 5:18)
- “I renounce the lies of the enemy; I cling to Your truth.” (John 8:32)
- “I choose to let go of what is bitter and hold fast to what is sweet.” (Romans 12:9)
- “Plant me in Your vineyard to bear good fruit.” (John 15:5,16)
Journal two questions:
- Lord, what “rope of lies” do I need to cut today so I can walk free in Your vineyard?
- Write down what the Holy Spirit whispers.
- What do you want me to know about that?
- Write down what the Holy Spirit whispers.
- What do you want me to do?
- Write down what the Holy Spirit whispers.
Short Prayer
Father, thank You that You have given me everything I need for life and godliness. I don’t want to drag a cart of sin behind me. Cut every rope of lies, free me from deception, and root me in Your truth. Let me bear sweet fruit in Your vineyard, sheltered under Your covering. In Jesus’ name, amen. 🌿
