An Escort of Glory
“Please speak to me, my lord, for you have strengthened me.”
—Daniel 10:19
For centuries, scholars have wrestled with the identity of the radiant figure who appeared to Daniel in chapter 10. Was it a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus, described in glory and majesty? Or was it the angel Gabriel, arriving to deliver a message after facing great resistance? What if…it was both? What if the Lord Himself came not to speak, but to strengthen — standing in glory to ensure the messenger’s mission was fulfilled? What if there were two heavenly beings Daniel saw that day?
Daniel 10:19 says,“Please speak to me, my lord, for you have strengthened me.” The Messenger had already been speaking to Daniel — so why would he say that? Because Daniel wasn’t talking to the Messenger anymore. He was now directing his request to the One who strengthened him — the One who looked like a man, who touched his lips, who brought him to his feet, who didn’t say anything… yet was unmistakably present in power and glory. That presence, full of glory, power, and gentleness — silent but sovereign — can only point to one person: the pre-incarnate Christ.
The first being, described with blazing eyes and a voice like a multitude (Daniel 10:5–6), bears an uncanny resemblance to the glorified Jesus seen in Revelation 1:13-15. The second is a messenger—tasked with delivering the revelation to Daniel—but was delayed by a spiritual battle with the prince of Persia, until the archangel Michael came to help. Christ wouldn’t be delayed because He has power of all things, so the second being was obviously not Him.
What if Jesus came to escort this messenger to ensure the message would be delivered? This so aligns with the character of Jesus throughout scripture:
- He upholds order and honor (Romans 13:7, 1 Peter 2:17)
- He never overrides unless necessary — even when He could
- He often comes to empower, not replace
He doesn’t strip us of our calling when we struggle — He strengthens us to finish it! Jesus didn’t override the messenger’s assignment! Instead, He came—as an escort of glory—to ensure the message would be delivered, not to steal the moment. He stood in majesty and power, but gave the angel space to complete what he was called to do.
That’s how our God operates.
He doesn’t revoke a calling when things get hard. He doesn’t shame His servants when they struggle. Instead, He comes alongside us—His presence brings power, His silence speaks honor, and His touch gives strength.
This is a message to the weary messenger.
You may be in a fight. The enemy may have delayed you. You may feel like you’ve failed. But God hasn’t left you. He’s standing beside you, not to replace you—but to strengthen you to finish the task.
He honors the process. He respects the calling He placed in your hands. And when you reach your limit, He doesn’t take over… He lifts you up. Now that is an awesome God! 💎
