Casting Our Crowns | The Love Behind Consecration in Leviticus 27

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Leviticus 27:14-Numbers 1:54, Mark 11:1-26, Psalm 46:1-11, Proverbs 10:23

Love Chooses Surrender

When I first read about the voluntary offerings in Leviticus 27, I thought, “Why would anyone do that?” Then suddenly, the sweet Holy Spirit flashed a vision of myself in worship that morning, on my knees, saying, “Lord, I dedicate my heart and my life to You this day. Thank You for it all!”

Immediately I understood—this isn’t about things. It is about love.

I don’t worship every morning because I have to. I do it because I love Him and I want to. I want to worship Him with honor and glory. I want to be in His presence. I want to see Him and experience Him. I want to grow deeper with Him and be open to what He has to show me and give me. And often, I don’t want to leave that place. But I have to, because life goes on and work must be done.

It’s the same with my obedience. I do it because I want to. I want to follow Him because I trust Him and know His ways are better than my own. I want to obey so I can become like Him and reflect Him in my daily life. I want to love like Him, see like Him, hear like Him—be like Him. I can only do this by walking with Him in obedience, and it has become sweet to me.

So now I understand. After all the laws, the warnings, the blessings, and the consequences of chapter 26…

It all ends with covenant commitment and love. It is the people saying, “I recognize all You have done for me, and I love You, Lord. You are good. You make my life sweet. You make things better, and I praise You for it. I want to be with You always and dedicate my life to You. Everything I am and everything I have is from You. You make me whole.”

Their devotion to God inspired them to dedicate their lives and their possessions to Him because they chose to—not because they had to.

It reminded me of the elders who cast their crowns at Jesus’ feet in Revelation 4. They were acknowledging that everything they are and everything they have is from Him.

Why the terms and instructions then, if it is voluntary? That’s simple. Because God also knows the folly of man and how easily we can let things get out of control without order. He provided structure for their devotion—not to restrict it, but to honor it. Because this deep love and dedication carries weight. It matters deeply to Him and should not be done frivolously.

So this chapter quietly asks a question:

Now that you understand who God is…
What will you give Him willingly?

Consecration is love expressed through surrender. And under the New Covenant, we don’t dedicate ourselves hoping to earn belonging. We dedicate ourselves because we already belong.

He redeemed you.
He restored you.
He walks with you.

He is a God of relationship, and He gave it all for you.

Will you give that kind of love back to Him? 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take 5 minutes today to be with the Lord. Ask Him:

  • What do You want me to know about this today, Lord?”
    • Journal what He reveals to you through His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask Him, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what he reveals – then do it!

Let today be a day of consecration and dedication to the Lord. Not out of fear or pressure. But out of love.

Prayer

Father,
Everything I have ultimately belongs to You. Today, I willingly dedicate my heart, my thoughts, my plans, and my life to You. Not because I must—but because I love You, truly love You. You are amazing to me. Thank You that You would hear me, call me and choose me. Teach me to live surrendered and joyful in belonging to You. Thank You, Lord. This I pray in Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
