Breaking Free From Torment | Jesus Restorative Power

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Deuteronomy 4:1-49, Luke 6:39-7:10, Psalm 68:1-18, Proverbs 11:28

Don’t Let It Stay

Today’s Gem of Knowledge the Holy Spirit whispered to me was a heavy hitter! He said:

“Torment only comes to stay if you let it in and allow it to stay. It will make itself comfortable in you as it tears your house down around you. Don’t let it stay! Cast out all torment in My name, then allow Me to enter and I will rebuild your house. I will clean it and repair all that was broken. Amen.”

I have come to realize that all torment begins with one simple thought and what we decide to do with it determines everything that comes after.

Some thoughts enter quietly, but some come with great impact – causing immediate reactions of fear, anxiety, or anguish.

Some are easy to get rid of others seem to never leave no matter how hard we try. Thoughts that don’t belong become stubborn visitors that just won’t leave. Fear lingers longer than it should. Shame, anxiety, anger all seem to be an unshakable part of you not matter how mush you don’t want it. These are the torments that don’t just pass through, but begin to settle in and tear us down.

Before we realize it, what came as a visitor has now started acting like a permanent resident claiming ownership as it pushes through every room of the house causing havoc.

Jesus warned us about this in Luke 6:48–49, showing that our lives are like a house. When the foundation is weak, it doesn’t take much for things to begin to break down. Torment doesn’t need permission to knock—but it does need permission to stay.

And many times, we don’t even realize we’ve given it that permission. When these thoughts knock at the door and we begin to entertain it, we have given permission to enter. It then becomes easier to agree with it and sometimes we just get tired of fighting it, so it takes over completely.

But Scripture reminds us that we are not powerless.

“Rise up, O God, and scatter your enemies…” (Psalm 68:1, NLT)

God does not coexist with torment—He drives it out!

And through Jesus, you have been given authority in His name – that means you don’t have to live with what is trying to tear you down. You don’t have to let anxiety stay. You don’t have to tolerate fear. You don’t have to carry thoughts that contradict truth. You can cast them out in the name of Jesus!

But here’s the part we often miss:
It’s not just about removing what doesn’t belong— it’s about filling your life with the One who does. Because when Jesus rebuilds, He doesn’t just repair damage… He restores strength, order, and peace.

He becomes your foundation and, “He will show you which path to take.” (Proverbs 3:6, NLT)

So today, don’t just ask God to take something away – Invite Him to come in to stay. Let Him rebuild what was shaken and restore what was broken. Let Him dwell where torment once tried to stay.

You are not a place for torment to live. You are a house for the presence of God. He is knocking. Will you let Him enter? 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take five minutes with the Lord today and ask Him:

  • Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?
    • Journal what He whispers by His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask Him, “What do You want me to do?
    • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Take authority with Jesus and cleanse your house today 💎

Prayer

Lord, thank You for showing me that I don’t have to live with what is trying to tear me down. Give me discernment to recognize what doesn’t belong and boldness to cast it out in the name of Jesus. I choose today not to agree with fear, anxiety, or torment of any kind. I ask You to come in and fill every place in my heart and mind. Rebuild what has been broken, restore what has been shaken, and establish me firmly in Your truth. Let Your peace dwell in me. I choose to be a place where Your presence lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
