Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Deuteronomy 26:1-27:26, Luke 10:38-11:13, Psalm 76:1-12, Proverbs 12:15-17
Let It Become You
I think sometimes we don’t even realize how quickly we move through the Word.
We read it, we check the box, and we move on with our day. And we feel good about it—we did it. But if we’re honest, a lot of the time it doesn’t actually stay with us. It doesn’t really change anything.
And that’s not because the Word isn’t powerful—it absolutely is. It’s because we didn’t slow down long enough to let it sink in.
The Holy Spirit whispered to me this Gem today,
“Take your time in the Word. Let it sink in. Marinate in it. Let it become you. This is where all renewing begins. Amen.”
When I read today’s passage about Mary and Martha in Luke 10, it just hits this so clearly. Martha wasn’t doing anything wrong. She was serving. She was busy. She was doing what needed to be done.
But Mary chose something different. She sat down at Jesus’ feet and just listened.
And Jesus said that what she chose was the one thing that was actually needed. He said,
“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:42, NLT)
“Only one thing worth being concerned about’…that always gets me, because it means it’s possible to be doing good things—even things that seem right—and still miss what matters most.
“Take your time in the Word… let it sink in… let it become you.”
This is us sitting at Jesus’ feet – When we read something and instead of moving on, we stay there a little longer. We think about it. We ask Him about it. We let it start working on us. Instead of rushing around in works, too busy to sit and listen.
Even in Deuteronomy today, God has His people constantly remembering, speaking, and returning to His Word. Not just hearing it once—but letting it become part of their lives.
Because that’s what changes us—not exposure, but repetition… not speed, but depth.
And Proverbs reminds us that our own thinking can feel right to us, but wisdom comes when we’re willing to receive and listen.
That’s what happens when we stay in the Word long enough. It begins to sink in to our hearts and starts to shift how we think. It corrects us. It comforts us. It aligns us.
And before we even realize it, it’s not just something we read anymore… it’s something we’re living.
That’s renewal.
“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened” (Luke 11:9-10 NLT). 💎
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Take time to sit at Jesus’ feet today and ask Him:
- “Lord, what do You want me to know about this today?”
- Journal what He whispers by His Holy Spirit.
- Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
- Journal what He reveals – then do it!
Don’t rush away from it. Let it sit with you… carry Him and His words with you throughout your day.
Prayer
Lord, help me slow down in Your Word. I don’t want to just read it and move on—I want it to actually change me. Teach me to sit with You, to listen, and to let Your truth go deep in my heart. Renew my mind and shape my life through Your Word. Let it become part of who I am. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
