Clarity Comes Through Dedication

Find Your Godly Identity

There are times in life when we long for clarity. We want to understand what God is doing, where we are going, and how everything is going to come together. It can feel frustrating when things seem unclear or when we are waiting for direction that doesn’t seem to come.

But often, we are looking for clarity before we are willing to fully dedicate ourselves to the Lord. We want to see the plan before we surrender to it, and we want understanding before we fully trust. Yet the Gem the Lord gave today makes it clear that it doesn’t work that way:

“Dedicate yourself to me, and I will show you the plans and purpose I have for your life. Everything will become clear and you will begin to see the great path I’ve laid out for you and why.”

Dedication comes first, and clarity follows.

In today’s reading in Luke 18, the rich young ruler comes to Jesus asking what he must do to inherit eternal life. He is seeking direction and purpose, but when Jesus tells him to let go of what he is holding onto and follow Him, he walks away sad. He wanted the answer, but he was not willing to fully surrender. His lack of dedication kept him from stepping into what was being offered to him.

We can find ourselves in a similar place. We may genuinely want to follow the Lord, but still hold tightly to certain things—our plans, our comfort, or our sense of control. When we do that, everything can feel unclear, not because God is withholding direction, but because we are not yet fully aligned with Him.

David shows us a different posture in Psalm 86 when he prays:

“Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you.” (Psalm 86:11, NLT)

This is the heart of someone who is dedicated. He is not just asking for answers; he is asking to be shaped, to be led, and to be aligned with God’s truth. When our hearts take that position, something begins to change. We become more sensitive to His leading, and what once felt confusing starts to come into focus.

At the end of Luke 18, we also see the blind man who calls out to Jesus. He doesn’t try to figure everything out first. He simply knows his need and calls on the Lord persistently. When Jesus asks what he wants, he responds, “Lord, I want to see.” And Jesus restores his sight.

There is a simple but powerful connection there. When we come to the Lord with that same heart—fully aware of our need and willing to trust Him—He brings clarity in the way that we need it. It may not always come all at once, but as we walk with Him, step by step, we begin to see more clearly.

Clarity is not something we force or figure out on our own. It comes as a result of walking closely with God and surrendering ourselves to Him. As we dedicate our lives to Him, our perspective changes, our understanding grows, and we begin to recognize the path He has been laying out for us all along. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take5 minutes to be with the Lord today. Ask Him,

  • “Lord, what do You want me to know about this today?”
    • Journal what He reveals to you by His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask, “What do you want me to do?”
    • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Let today be a day of deeper surrender to the Lord. Our surrender is where we allow Him to move.

Prayer

Father, thank You that You have a plan and purpose for my life. Forgive me for the times I have wanted clarity without first giving myself fully to You. Teach me Your ways and help me to walk in Your truth. Align my heart with Yours and give me the willingness to surrender what I have been holding onto. I trust You to lead me, even when I cannot see the full picture. Bring clarity as I walk with You and help me to follow where You are leading. I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
