Seeing Beyond Where You Are

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: 1 Samuel 20:1–21:15, John 9:1–41, Psalm 113:1–114:8, Proverbs 15:15–17

Dream Big!

Sometimes one of the hardest things to do is believe your life can become different than what it is right now.

Disappointment, delays, pain, failure, rejection, and long seasons of waiting can slowly train the heart to stop expecting good things. People begin surviving instead of dreaming. Existing instead of hoping. They stop imagining what God could do because life has taught them to prepare for loss instead of promise.

But the Lord often stirs vision in us before He brings fulfillment.

The Gem of Knowledge for today says,

“Be excited about your future and imagine it regularly. See yourself doing what you dream. It will help you achieve it. Amen.”

There is something powerful about allowing your heart to partner with hope again.

This is not about selfish ambition or fantasizing apart from God. It is about agreeing with the possibilities He places inside of you instead of continually meditating on fear, failure, insecurity, or limitation. Many people unknowingly rehearse defeat in their minds every day. They imagine worst-case scenarios, rejection, embarrassment, lack, or collapse — and eventually those fears begin shaping their confidence and decisions.

But faith has vision.

Faith sees beyond the current circumstance.

In John 9, Jesus encounters a man who had been blind since birth. Everyone around the man focused on the problem. They debated blame, sin, and suffering. But Jesus immediately saw possibility where others saw limitation.

The blind man could not yet see physically, but Jesus already saw him healed.

What if we began seeing ourselves through God’s perspective instead of through our wounds?

So many people define themselves by what has happened to them:

  • “I’m always going to struggle.”
  • “Nothing ever changes.”
  • “I’ll never accomplish that.”
  • “That dream is too far gone.”
  • “I’m too old.”
  • “I’m not qualified.”

But God specializes in opening eyes that have adjusted to darkness.

Sometimes the first miracle He performs is restoring hope.

David experienced this kind of tension in 1 Samuel 20–21. Although David had already been anointed king, he was still running for his life. Imagine how confusing that must have felt. God had spoken promise over him, yet his current reality looked nothing like the future he was called to.

Still, David kept moving forward.

That is important.

He did not fully possess the promise yet, but he refused to surrender to hopelessness in the middle of the process – He stood in faith and trusted God’s promise.

Many of us abandon what God planted in us because the middle does not look like the ending we imagined.

But the middle is not the final chapter.

Psalm 113 beautifully reminds us that God “lifts the poor from the dust and the needy from the garbage dump.” He is a God who raises people up from low places and seats them in places they never imagined possible.

What a powerful picture of redemption.

God is not intimidated by humble beginnings, small platforms, weak seasons, limited resources, or unfinished stories. He sees the full picture long before we do.

And Proverbs 15:15 says:

“For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.” (NLT)

Our perspective matters more than we realize.

A hopeful heart has strength to keep building, praying, trying, learning, and believing. A discouraged heart often stops moving entirely.

There is wisdom in imagining yourself walking in obedience, healing, freedom, purpose, restoration, ministry, creativity, or whatever God has placed inside your heart. When you regularly meditate on what God can do instead of only on what is wrong, it strengthens your faith to continue forward.

Don’t rehearse defeat more than you rehearse God’s promises.

See yourself growing.
See yourself healed.
See yourself creating.
See yourself speaking.
See yourself overcoming.
See yourself walking faithfully into the future God is preparing for you.

Not because of pride — but because of hope. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take 5 minutes to be with God today. Ask Him:

  • Lord, what do You want me to know about this today?”
    • Journal what He reveals to you by His Holy Spirit
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Spend time today imagining the future God is leading you toward. Pray over the dreams, desires, gifts, and callings He has placed inside your heart, declare them out loud, then walk in belief and do what He instructs. Instead of meditating on fear or limitation, begin thanking Him for His guidance, provision, growth, and faithfulness along the journey.

Prayer

Lord, help me to see beyond my current circumstances. Restore hope in the places where disappointment, fear, or delay have weakened my faith. Teach me to imagine my future through Your promises instead of through my insecurities. Give me courage to keep moving forward even when I cannot yet see the full picture. Help me to partner with faith, hope, and expectancy instead of defeat and doubt. Open my eyes to the possibilities You are preparing, and strengthen me to walk faithfully into them. In Jesus’ beautiful name I pray, amen.
