Dust Off the Dreams God Gave You

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: 2 Samuel 2:12–3:39, John 13:1–30, Psalm 119:1–16, Proverbs 15:29–30

Rediscover His Plans For You

Sometimes life has a way of quietly burying the things God once placed in our hearts.

Dreams.
Callings.
Ideas.
Ministries.
Books.
Businesses.
Creative gifts.
Plans we once felt deeply excited about with God.

Not because we stopped loving Him… but because life became heavy, discouraging, distracting, painful, or exhausting. And over time, those things slowly get folded up and tucked away into the “closet” of our hearts where they sit untouched for years.

But God is calling them out in today’s Gem of Knowledge:

“Unfold the plans I gave you for your life that you forgot about in your closet. Dust them off, spread them before you, study them with Me, and together we will make a plan to achieve it.”

What a loving reminder from the Lord.

Sometimes we assume that because time passed, the dream must be dead. But God is not limited by delay, detours, fear, age, setbacks, or unfinished seasons. What He plants deeply in the heart often remains there waiting for the right season to awaken again.

And honestly, many of us do not need entirely new visions from God.
We need the courage to revisit the ones He already gave us.

In Psalm 119, David writes:

“Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord.” (NLT)

There is something beautiful about walking closely enough with God that we allow Him to guide not only our spiritual lives, but also our direction, goals, decisions, and purpose. God cares about the details of our calling because He is the One who placed those desires within us in the first place.

But notice the Gem does not simply say to chase the dream alone.

It says:
“Study them with Me.”

That part matters deeply.

Sometimes our old dreams need refining. we need healing.timing changes or God expands the vision into something even greater than we originally imagined. And sometimes… He simply reminds us,
“You gave up too soon.”

In John 13, Jesus humbly washes the feet of His disciples before heading toward the cross. Even knowing betrayal, suffering, and hardship were ahead, Jesus continued walking faithfully in the assignment the Father gave Him.

That speaks powerfully to me.

Purpose is not always glamorous.
Calling is not always easy.
But there is deep fulfillment in walking closely with God and continuing to build what He asks us to build.

Sometimes revisiting forgotten dreams with God breathes life back into weary places within us. Hope begins returning. Vision starts awakening again. What once felt impossible suddenly feels possible because we are no longer carrying it alone.

Maybe today God is asking you to pull something back out of the closet.

The book idea.
The ministry.
The art.
The business.
The calling.
The prayer journal.
The dream you quietly buried because disappointment convinced you it was too late.

Dust it off.
Spread it before Him again.

And let Him help you build it this time. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Spend intentional time with the Lord today, even if it’s just 5 minutes. Ask Him:

  • Lord, what do You want me to know about this today?”
    • Journal what He gives you by His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He gives you – then do it!

Ask the Lord to bring to mind any dreams, callings, or plans you may have quietly set aside through discouragement, fear, delay, or exhaustion. Spend time revisiting them with Him and invite Him to guide, refine, and help you take the next small step forward.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the dreams, gifts, and plans You have placed within my heart. Forgive me for the places where discouragement, fear, disappointment, or exhaustion caused me to fold them up and put them away. Help me revisit those callings with You again, not striving in my own strength, but walking closely beside You. Give me wisdom, courage, direction, and renewed vision for the things You are asking me to build. Breathe fresh life into the places that have grown weary, and help me trust that Your plans are still good even when the journey takes longer than expected. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
