Treasure the Gifts of Heaven

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: 2 Samuel 14:1–15:22, John 18:1–24, Psalm 119:97–112, Proverbs 16:8–9

Spiritual Treasures from God

We live in a world constantly competing for our attention, affection, loyalty, and desire.

Every day voices pull at us from every direction telling us what matters most, what success looks like, what we should pursue, what we should fear, and what we should build our lives around. And if we are not careful, it becomes very easy to value earthly things while neglecting the treasures heaven is trying to place within us.

Today’s Gem of Knowledge says:

“Treasure the heavenly gifts I give you. If you don’t know what they are, ask me. I need you to know the things of heaven, or the things of the world could destroy you.”

Many believers know about salvation, but never fully learn to recognize, value, or walk in the gifts heaven offers us daily through relationship with God.

Peace.
Wisdom.
Discernment.
Conviction.
Truth.
Love.
Self-control.
Spiritual authority.
Discernment of spirits.
Prayer.
The voice of the Holy Spirit.
The Word of God.
Humility.
Mercy.
Wisdom to avoid danger.
Strength to endure temptation.
Understanding.
Revelation.

These are all treasures.💎

And honestly, they are far more valuable than most people realize because the world around us can become spiritually dangerous when we lack discernment and closeness with God.

Jesus tells His disciples in John 18:

“Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me?” (NLT)

What amazes me there is Jesus’ complete awareness, surrender, discernment, and authority even while betrayal, chaos, fear, violence, and darkness unfold around Him. Jesus was not controlled by the panic of the moment because He remained deeply anchored in the Father.

That is one of the greatest heavenly gifts we can receive:
spiritual stability in the middle of worldly chaos.

In today’s reading from 2 Samuel, we also see the danger of misplaced loyalty, manipulation, offense, and unchecked ambition through Absalom’s rebellion. Hearts were slowly stolen away little by little because people were swayed emotionally rather than remaining grounded in truth and wisdom.

And honestly, the same thing still happens today.

Without discernment, people can be easily pulled away by culture, deception, pride, offense, temptation, fear, false teaching, emotional manipulation, or worldly desires. The world does not merely influence us outwardly — if we are not careful, it slowly reshapes the condition of the heart itself.

That is why the treasures of heaven matter so much.

David recognized the heavenly treasures Gid had given him. In Psalm 119:103-105 he says:

“How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey. Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life. Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” (NLT)

God never intended believers to walk blindly through life. His Word, His Spirit, His wisdom, and His presence are gifts meant to protect, guide, strengthen, and preserve us.

And Proverbs 16:9 says:

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” (NLT)

There is safety in learning to walk closely enough with God that His wisdom continually corrects, redirects, and steadies us before destruction ever takes root.

Sometimes people only think of heavenly gifts as dramatic spiritual experiences, but many of heaven’s greatest treasures are the quiet inner workings of God transforming and guarding the heart over time.

The world constantly offers counterfeit treasures that promise fulfillment while slowly destroying peace, purity, wisdom, intimacy with God, and spiritual sensitivity.

But the treasures of heaven protect life.

So ask Him for them.

Because the closer we walk with God, the more clearly we begin recognizing what is truly valuable — and what is quietly trying to destroy us. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Spend at least 5 minutes with God today. Ask Him:

  • Lord, what do You want me to know about this today?”
    • Journal what He gives you by His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He gives you – then do it!

Ask the Lord to help you recognize and treasure the spiritual gifts and wisdom He offers you.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the treasures and gifts You freely offer through relationship with You. Forgive me for the times I have valued worldly things more than spiritual wisdom, discernment, truth, and closeness with You. Teach me the things of heaven and help me recognize the gifts You are placing within my life each day. Give me discernment to recognize deception, temptation, manipulation, and the things that slowly pull hearts away from You. Let Your Word guide my steps, Your Spirit steady my heart, and Your wisdom protect my life. Help me treasure what truly matters eternally. In Jesus’ name, amen.
