Today’s One Year Bible Verses: 2 Samuel 17:1–29, John 19:23–42, Psalm 119:129–152, Proverbs 16:12–13
Our Invitation
So many people spend their lives chasing happiness while continually feeling empty inside.
They search the world and never find it. Success, relationships, entertainment, comfort, possessions, approval, achievements, and temporary pleasures…yet they are always left wanting. While some of those things may bring moments of enjoyment, they were never designed to carry the full weight of the human soul.
But God offers true happiness in a world that cannot. In today’s Gem of Knowledge the Holy Spirit whispered::
“Happiness is a choice. Choosing Me and the gifts I offer. I want to make you happy forever. Come, follow Me. Amen.”
God is not merely offering temporary excitement or fleeting emotional highs. He is inviting us into lasting happiness with peace, purpose, security, and love.
The world often treats happiness like something we stumble upon accidentally once circumstances finally become perfect. But Jesus continually points us toward a different kind of joy — one rooted in relationship with Him.
In 2 Samuel today we see how different choices continually led people toward either life or destruction. Some followed wisdom while others followed pride, manipulation, ambition, or self-interest. And honestly, the same choices still stand before us daily.
Every day we choose what we will follow.
Every day we choose what we will treasure.
Every day we choose where we will seek fulfillment.
And eventually those choices shape the condition of our hearts.
In John 19, everything outwardly looked dark, painful, and hopeless. Yet there was Jesus carrying out the greatest act of love humanity would ever witness. While the world saw suffering and defeat, heaven saw redemption unfolding.
Those examples show something incredibly powerful:
circumstances do not control the condition of the heart.
The world’s version of happiness disappears the moment comfort disappears. But the joy and peace Jesus offers run far deeper than temporary circumstances because they remain anchored in eternal purpose, love, and relationship with the Father.
Jesus was willing to walk through temporary pain to offer us eternal joy.
And many times, following Him requires the same perspective from us.
Happiness is not found in chasing what the world tells us is good. True joy is found in choosing what leads us closer to God, even though it requires surrender, trust, patience, forgiveness, obedience, or sacrifice.
Psalm 119 says:
“Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart’s delight.” (NLT)
I love that wording:
my heart’s delight.
David tasted of the goodness of God and the true happiness He offers, so he knew where to go to find peace and happiness.
And Proverbs 16:13 reminds us:
“The king is pleased with words from righteous lips; he loves those who speak honestly.” (NLT)
God delights in hearts that walk closely and honestly with Him because He desires genuine relationship, not empty religion or performance.
The beautiful thing is that Jesus does not merely say,
“Try harder.”
He says,
“Come, follow Me.”
That is an invitation.
Not into shallow, temporary happiness…but into an everlasting joy with Him. 💎

Prayer
Lord, thank You for inviting me into true joy and lasting peace through relationship with You. Forgive me for the times I chase temporary things hoping they will satisfy what only You can fill. Teach me to treasure the gifts You offer — peace, truth, purpose, love, wisdom, and eternal life with You. Help me follow You daily instead of following the distractions and empty promises of the world. Shape my heart to delight in Your presence and Your ways. Thank You for desiring not only my salvation, but my joy forever with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
