Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Nehemiah 5:14–7:73a, 1 Corinthians 8:1–13, Psalm 33:1–11, Proverbs 21:8–10

The Unseen Battle

Well, the Lord is obviously trying to get our attention as He continues to show us what is to come. Today, the Holy Spirit whispered this urgent and sobering Gem of Knowledge to me:

“The enemy quickly approaches with their hordes of armies. What side will you be on? Will you slip into slavery of war, or will you stand up and fight with Me?”

Ooof…Those words stopped me.

There has been a clear progression in what He’s been telling us over the last few days: seek Him → come into His safety → know Him so your allegiance is settled → now, stand with Him.

There is a real battle taking place, and Scripture has never hidden that from us. But before we picture earthly armies or begin viewing people around us as enemies, we need to remember what Paul teaches elsewhere: “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12, NLT). Our battle is spiritual.

People are not the enemy – The enemy is evil in the unseen realm.

And one of their greatest strategies has always been to bring God’s people into bondage—through sin, fear, deception, compromise, division, distraction, and anything else that pulls us away from the freedom Christ purchased for us.

That makes the Lord’s question especially powerful: Will you slip into slavery, or will you stand and fight with Me?

Today’s reading in Nehemiah gives us an incredible picture of people who chose to stand. The wall had been rebuilt, but the opposition hadn’t disappeared. Nehemiah’s enemies tried intimidation, deception, false accusations, and even attempted to lure him away from the work God had given him.

Nehemiah refused to move.

When they tried to frighten him, he prayed, “But now I prayed, ‘Now strengthen my hands’” (Nehemiah 6:9, NLT).

I love that response. He didn’t pray for the enemy to disappear so he wouldn’t have to face opposition. He asked God to make him stronger so he could keep doing what he had been called to do.

Perhaps that is part of what God is asking of us now.

We cannot afford to surrender every time following Jesus becomes difficult. We cannot allow fear to dictate our choices, deception to determine what we believe, or the pressure of the world to slowly pull us away from the One we know.

But fighting with Jesus doesn’t look like the world’s version of fighting.

We don’t fight hatred with hatred or darkness with more darkness. First Corinthians 8 reminds us that even when we possess knowledge, our actions must still be governed by love. Paul says, “While knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church” (1 Corinthians 8:1, NLT).

That matters enormously.

If our spiritual warfare makes us hateful toward people, we’ve misunderstood the battle. We fight by standing in truth while loving people. We pray when the enemy wants us consumed with fear. We forgive when bitterness tries to enslave us. We obey when compromise would be easier. We speak truth when deception spreads, and we love even when the world tells us to hate.

There are different ways we can fight in the spirit—through intercession, through exercising the authority Jesus gives us to resist and silence the enemy, and through bringing our petitions before God’s heavenly court, trusting in the finished work and authority of Jesus Christ. We don’t have to be afraid of spiritual warfare when we know Who gives us the victory.

Most importantly, we fight with Him.

God isn’t sending His children onto a battlefield while He watches safely from a distance. The invitation in today’s Gem is, “stand up and fight with Me.”

Psalm 33 reminds us why we can:

“The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born.” — Psalm 33:6 (NLT)

That’s Who stands beside us.

The God who created the heavens isn’t intimidated by the enemy’s armies. Whatever darkness may be approaching, it is not greater than our God.

So we don’t need to live terrified of what may come. But neither should we sleep through a battle that is already taking place.

Yesterday’s question was, “Where does your allegiance lie?”

Today’s question is what we will do about it.

If we belong to Jesus, then let’s stand beside Him. Let’s know His Word, recognize His voice, put on the armor of God, pray, love courageously, resist deception, and refuse to surrender the freedom Christ has given us.

The enemy may approach with armies.

But look Who is standing beside you! 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take 5 minutes to be with the Lord today. Ask Him:

• “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
  • Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
• Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
  • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Today, allow Him to show you what obedience looks like in your life and what battles He wants to win with you then take your stand!

Prayer

Father God, open my eyes to the spiritual battle around me without allowing fear to enter my heart. Help me remember that people are not my enemy and teach me to fight Your way—with truth, prayer, faith, obedience, and love. Show me where I have surrendered ground through fear, compromise, or deception, and strengthen my hands to stand firm. I choose Jesus as My Lord, Savior, Captain and Defender. I choose You and Your Kingdom. And whatever lies ahead, I don’t want to retreat into bondage. Teach me to stand and fight with You. In Jesus’ mighty name I pray, amen.
