Watch What God Will Do

Sometimes we pray for something for so long that we stop expecting anything to happen.

We still believe in God. We still pray and trust Him—or at least we’re trying to—but somewhere along the way, expectation quietly fades. We become so accustomed to waiting that we start assuming tomorrow will probably look a lot like today.

Then God reminded me today in this Gem of Knowledge,

“Behold the power of God! Pay attention to Me and watch what I will do for My faithful children. Amen.”

Behold. Pay attention. Watch.

God is drawing our attention away from what we see happening around us and back toward Him.

That’s important because sometimes we spend so much time watching the problems that we forget to watch God. We watch circumstances, people, finances, opportunities, the calendar, and anything else that might give us some indication that something is finally changing.

Meanwhile, God says, Pay attention to Me.

Psalm 51 gives us an incredible example of God’s power, although perhaps not the kind we usually think about. After David sinned, he came before God broken and prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10 NLT).

David wasn’t asking God to change his circumstances. He was asking God to change him.

And God can.

We often think of God’s power in terms of dramatic miracles—impossible doors opening, bodies being healed, provision appearing, or circumstances suddenly changing. But never underestimate the miracle of God transforming a human heart.

He can restore what sin has damaged, break patterns that have existed for years, soften a hardened heart, restore joy where sorrow has settled in, and give hope to someone who had almost stopped believing.

That’s the power of God too.

Today’s reading from 2 Corinthians shows another way God works. Paul encourages believers to give generously and reminds them, “God will generously provide all you need” (2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT). Sometimes God’s answer to someone’s prayer comes through another person who simply listens and obeys. Someone gives. Someone calls. Someone opens a door. Someone offers an opportunity. Someone prays.

Suddenly, we see God moving in a situation through the obedience of others.

That’s why we need to pay attention.

God may not work the way we expected Him to. The answer may not arrive through the person we imagined. The breakthrough may begin somewhere we cannot yet see. What looks like nothing happening may actually be God arranging things we know nothing about.

Our part is faithfulness.

Faithfulness doesn’t mean earning God’s goodness by performing perfectly. It means continuing to choose Him. It’s praying when we haven’t seen the answer yet, obeying the last thing He told us while waiting for the next thing, and trusting Him when we still don’t understand.

Sometimes faithfulness is simply refusing to give up on God because the answer is taking longer than we hoped.

Maybe there’s something in your life you’ve almost stopped expecting God to change. You’ve prayed about it so many times that you’ve started protecting yourself from disappointment by expecting nothing.

Maybe God is asking you to lift your eyes again.

Not to stare harder at the problem or figure out how He’s going to fix it. But to look at Him.

We don’t know exactly what God will do or when He will do it. Faith isn’t predicting His next move. It’s knowing enough about His character to keep trusting Him while we wait.

So keep praying. Keep listening. Keep obeying.

And pay attention.

Behold the power of God. Watch what He will do. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take at least 5 minutes to be with the Lord today. Ask Him:

• “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
  • Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
• Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
  • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Pay attention today—not only for the dramatic miracle, but for the small movements of God you might otherwise miss.

Prayer

Dear Lord, sometimes I become so focused on what isn’t changing that I forget to look at You. Help me remain faithful when I cannot see what You’re doing. Open my eyes to recognize Your hand in the big things and the small things. Transform what needs to be transformed, provide what is needed, and accomplish Your purposes in ways only You can. I will keep praying, listening, obeying, and watching. Show me Your power, Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
