Remember God’s Faithfulness

It’s easy to remember God when we desperately need Him. When we’re scared, hurting, confused, or facing something beyond our ability, we cry out to Him. We pray more, seek Him more, and quickly recognize how dependent we are on His help.

But sometimes the greater danger comes when things are going well.

Success can make us forget what struggle taught us: we need God.

That is what stood out to me when the Lord gave me today’s Gem:

“Mighty men fall because they forget me, their source. Don’t fall. Remember me and all I do for you. Remember me because you love me, and I will remember you and show you my unfailing love continuously. Amen.”

He is our source.

Whatever strength, wisdom, ability, opportunity, influence, or success we have ultimately comes from God. Yet the more capable we become, the easier it can be to believe that we’re the reason everything is working. Without realizing it, Look what God has done can slowly become Look what I have done.

Psalm 78 shows us how easily this can happen. God rescued His people, guided them, provided for them, and performed miracles before their eyes. Yet we’re told, “But in spite of this, the people kept sinning. Despite his wonders, they refused to trust him” (Psalm 78:32 NLT).

We can do the same thing. Forgetting God doesn’t necessarily mean we stop believing in Him. Sometimes we forget Him simply by living as though we don’t need Him. We depend on our own wisdom and begin taking credit for things we once thanked God for.

That’s why today’s Gem—“Mighty men fall because they forget me, their source”—immediately reminds me of another warning:

“Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.”
—Proverbs 16:18 NLT

The higher we climb, the more important it becomes to remember Who helped us get there.

Today’s reading in Jeremiah reinforces the same truth. God says not to boast in wisdom, power, or riches, but instead to boast in this: “that they truly know me” (Jeremiah 9:24 NLT).

Wisdom isn’t bad. Strength isn’t bad. Success, money, influence, and accomplishment aren’t bad. The danger is forgetting their Source.

But I love that today’s Gem doesn’t simply say, Remember Me so you don’t fall. God says, “Remember me because you love me.”

That changes the motivation entirely. God doesn’t want us acknowledging Him merely because we’re afraid of what might happen if we don’t. He desires relationship. He wants us to remember Him because we recognize His fingerprints throughout our lives and genuinely love Him.

Colossians 3:17 gives us a beautiful way to live this out: “And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.”

Whether you’re struggling or succeeding, beginning something new or standing on top of something you worked years to build, remember Him. When you accomplish something, remember Who gave you the ability. When a door opens, remember Who opened it. When people praise you, receive it gratefully without forgetting where your strength came from.

Mighty people don’t always fall because they suddenly become weak. Sometimes they fall because they forget their Source.

Remember what God has done. Remember how He’s carried you and the prayers He’s answered. But most importantly, remember Him because you love Him.

Don’t forget your Source. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take at least 5 minutes to be with the Lord today. Ask Him:

  • “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
    • Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Never take Him for granted. Thank Him for everything, and ask Him to keep your heart humble enough to always remember where your strength comes from.

Prayer

Father, I never want Your blessings to make me forget the One who blessed me. Keep me close to You when I’m succeeding just as much as when I’m struggling. Thank You for every gift, opportunity, answered prayer, and moment of strength You have given me. Help me remember You not only because I need You, but because I love You. You are my Source, and I never want to forget it. In Jesus’ name, amen.h You have given me. Help me remember You not merely because I need what You can do for me, but because I genuinely love You. You are my Source, and I never want to forget it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
