Jesus shapes a clay vessel on a pottery wheel in a rustic workshop while the prophet Jeremiah watches closely, illustrating God's power to reshape our hearts.

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Jeremiah 16:16–18:23 | 1 Thessalonians 4:1–5:3 | Psalm 81:1–16 | Proverbs 25:6–8

Let God Reshape You

As we’ve been reading through Jeremiah, one thing has become painfully clear: God’s people were stubborn! Again and again, He warned them, called them to repentance, and showed them the consequences of their rebellion. Yet they continued doing things their own way, refusing to listen to the very One who loved them and wanted to save them.

It’s easy to read these accounts and wonder how they could be so rebellious, especially after everything God had done for them. But then I have to stop and ask myself, Lord, am I doing the same thing in some area of my life?

That question became even more personal when the Holy Spirit gave me today’s Gem of Knowledge:

“Stop rebelling against Me and allow Me to save you. My love is sweet and rewarding.”

Those words make me want to examine my own heart. Not because I believe I’m deliberately rebelling against God, but because I recognize that rebellion doesn’t always look like outright defiance. Sometimes it’s knowing what God wants and continuing to do things our own way. Sometimes it’s holding on to an attitude, refusing to forgive, resisting His correction, or making excuses for something He’s already asked us to change.

In Jeremiah 17:9–10, God reminds us that the human heart can be deceitful and that He searches our hearts and examines our motives. That’s why I don’t want to rely solely on my own assessment of how I’m doing spiritually. I want God to show me what I might be overlooking.

David expressed this beautifully:

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” —Psalm 139:23–24 NLT

What a powerful prayer! It takes humility to invite God to reveal things about ourselves that we may not want to see. But wouldn’t we rather have Him lovingly expose something now than allow it to continue drawing us away from Him?

Today’s reading in Jeremiah 18 gives us a beautiful picture of God’s desire to reshape us. Jeremiah watches a potter working with clay. When the vessel doesn’t turn out as intended, the potter begins again, shaping it into something new.

We are the clay, and God is the Potter. But we must be willing to surrender to His hands rather than resist what He’s trying to do in us.

And I love how today’s Gem ends: “My love is sweet and rewarding.”

God isn’t calling us away from rebellion because He wants to deprive us of something good. He’s calling us away from what separates us from the goodness He desires for us. After all, He is the source of everything good (James 1:17).

Psalm 81:13–16 expresses this beautifully. God longs for His people to listen and follow His ways, promising to provide for them and satisfy them with the finest wheat and honey from the rock. What a picture of His desire to bless those who walk with Him!

In 1 Thessalonians 4:1, Paul encourages believers to live in a way that pleases God and to keep growing in that obedience. That’s what I want. I don’t want to become so comfortable in my relationship with the Lord that I stop allowing Him to correct me, teach me, or change me.

I want a heart that remains tender and responsive to Him…I want a heart like His.

Maybe today is a good opportunity for all of us to ask the Lord to search our hearts. Not with fear of what He might find, but with confidence in the love of the One doing the searching.

After all, the same God who reveals what needs to change is the One who lovingly helps us change it. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take 5 simple minutes to be with the Lord today. Ask Him:

  • “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
    • Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Pray Psalm 139:23–24 over yourself. Ask Him to reveal anything unclean that may be hiding in your heart. If He brings something to mind, don’t make excuses or condemn yourself. Be grateful—grateful that He is near, that He answered you, and that He cares enough to respond. Then simply acknowledge it, repent, and invite Him to reshape that area of your heart, making it brand new.

Prayer

Beloved Father, search my heart and reveal anything within me that is displeasing to You. I don’t want to be stubborn, rebellious, or resistant to Your correction. Forgive me for the times I’ve chosen my own way instead of Yours. Give me a humble, teachable heart that welcomes Your guidance, even when it’s uncomfortable. Mold me into the person You created me to be, and help me experience the sweetness of walking closely with You. I love You, my Lord, my God, and I want my life to please You. In Jesus’ mighty name I pray, amen.
