Young David faces the enormous armored Goliath with his sling while an even taller, radiant Jesus stands behind the giant, symbolizing God's power over every enemy.

They Got Nothing on Me!

Have you ever faced something so intimidating that you felt defeated before the battle even began?

It’s amazing how quickly our confidence can disappear when we focus on the size of what stands against us rather than the power of the One who stands with us.

But listen to what the Lord shared with me in today’s Gem of Knowledge:

“Size up the enemy and see how big they seem? They got nothing on Me!”

LOL! I love that! What a powerful reminder that no matter how big, strong, or intimidating our enemy may appear, they are absolutely no match for our God!

In Jeremiah 42, we find the remnant of Judah facing a frightening situation. Jerusalem had fallen, their nation was devastated, and they were terrified of what Babylon might do next.

The people approached Jeremiah and asked him to seek God’s direction. They even promised to obey whatever the Lord instructed them to do.

And God gave them a remarkable promise.

If they remained in Judah, He would build them up rather than tear them down. He told them not to fear the king of Babylon because He would be with them to save and rescue them.

Imagine that! The very enemy they feared was no match for the God who promised to protect them.

But there was a problem. The people had already decided that Egypt was their safest option. When God’s instructions didn’t agree with their plans, they accused Jeremiah of lying and went to Egypt anyway.

They trusted what looked safe rather than the One who could actually keep them safe.

And isn’t that something we sometimes do?

We look at the size of our problems, the strength of our opposition, or the uncertainty of our circumstances and begin making decisions based on fear. We may even ask God for direction, but when His answer requires more faith than we’re comfortable with, we’re tempted to take matters into our own hands.

Yet God sees what we cannot.

In Psalm 93:4 (NLT), we’re reminded:

“But mightier than the violent raging of the seas, mightier than the breakers on the shore—the LORD above is mightier than these!”

What a beautiful picture of God’s power! Even the mightiest forces of nature cannot compare with Him.

And in 2 Timothy 2, Paul encourages Timothy to be strong through the grace God gives us in Christ Jesus. He compares our walk of faith to that of a soldier who remains focused on pleasing the one who enlisted him.

A good soldier doesn’t abandon his assignment simply because the enemy looks intimidating. He remains faithful to his commander.

Likewise, our confidence shouldn’t come from our own strength or ability to defeat whatever stands against us. It comes from knowing who our Commander is!

This doesn’t mean we’ll never face hardship or that every battle will end the way we expect. Paul himself endured suffering and imprisonment. But even in chains, he confidently declared in 2 Timothy 2:9 that God’s Word cannot be chained.

WOW! The enemy may be able to restrict our circumstances, but he cannot overpower God or stop His purposes.

Whatever you’re facing today, don’t allow fear to convince you that your enemy is greater than your God. Seek His direction, obey His instructions, and trust Him even when the path He chooses doesn’t make sense to you.

Because no matter how big the enemy looks, compared to our Almighty God?

They got nothing on Him!💎💪

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take 5 minutes to be with the Lord today. Ask Him:

  • “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
    • Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Let today be the day you stop sizing up your enemy and start remembering the greatness of your God!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that nothing I face is greater than You. Forgive me for the times I’ve allowed fear to influence my decisions or trusted my own understanding instead of seeking Your direction. Help me recognize Your voice, trust Your promises, and obey Your instructions, even when the circumstances around me seem intimidating. Strengthen me through Your grace and remind me that my confidence rests in You, not in my own abilities. You are my protector, my defender, and my mighty God. In Jesus’ precious name, amen.
