Trust the Outcome

How often do we begin our day with a list of things we need to accomplish, places we need to go, and problems we need to solve, without ever stopping to ask God what He wants us to do?

We make plans, set goals, and work toward the outcomes we believe are best. Then, when things don’t go according to plan, we become frustrated or discouraged. But what if we’re approaching things backward? What if, instead of making our plans and asking God to bless them, we began by asking Him to lead us?

Today’s Gem of Knowledge reminds us:

“Begin with Me in all you do and it will work out how it’s supposed to. Trust that and believe it. Amen.”

I love the simplicity of this instruction, but I also recognize how challenging it can be to put into practice, especially when we already have an idea of how we want things to turn out!

We often invite God into our circumstances after we’ve exhausted our own efforts. We seek His guidance when we’re confused and His intervention when things begin falling apart. But He’s inviting us into something so much better: a life where He isn’t our last resort but our very first consideration.

In today’s reading from Lamentations, we witness the heartbreaking aftermath of Jerusalem’s destruction. The city that once flourished is now desolate, and God’s people are suffering the consequences of years of rebellion and disobedience.

Lamentations 1:18 (NLT) begins:

“The LORD is right,” Jerusalem says, “for I rebelled against him.”

What a sobering reminder that ignoring God’s direction can have devastating consequences. His instructions aren’t intended to restrict our lives but to guide us toward what is good.

Now consider the beautiful contrast in Paul’s letter to Philemon. Paul writes on behalf of Onesimus, who had wronged Philemon but had since become a believer. Rather than demanding a particular outcome, Paul appeals to Philemon through love, encouraging forgiveness and reconciliation.

Paul understood that genuine transformation begins with our relationship with Jesus. When we allow Him to guide our hearts, our decisions and relationships begin to reflect His character.

Psalm 101 gives us another example. David declares his intention to live with integrity and honor God, even within his own home.

Psalm 101:2 (NLT) says:

“I will be careful to live a blameless life—when will you come to help me? I will lead a life of integrity in my own home.”

Notice that David isn’t simply concerned with how others perceive him. He wants to honor God in the private, everyday moments of his life.

And that’s where beginning with God becomes so important.

It’s not just about praying before major decisions or asking for direction during a crisis. It’s about inviting Him into our conversations, relationships, responsibilities, and even the seemingly insignificant details of our day.

Before responding to someone who has upset us, we can ask Him for wisdom. Before making a commitment, we can seek His direction. Before beginning a project, we can surrender our expectations and invite Him to establish our steps.

And sometimes, His guidance may lead us somewhere entirely different from where we intended to go!

But here’s something important to remember: Beginning with God doesn’t guarantee everything will happen the way we want it to. It means we can trust Him with the outcome.

His plans may include unexpected delays, difficult lessons, or closed doors. Yet when we choose to follow Him, we can have confidence that He is working according to His wisdom and purposes.

So today, before rushing into your responsibilities, take a moment to seek the Lord. Invite Him to guide your thoughts, words, decisions, and actions. And when things don’t unfold as expected, remember His invitation:

Begin with Me. Trust Me. Believe Me.

Because the most important part of any plan isn’t where it takes us. It’s Who we’re following. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take 5 minutes to be with the Lord today. Ask Him:

  • “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
    • Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Before beginning your next task, conversation, or decision today, pause and ask Jesus, “Lord, how would You have me approach this?” Practice seeking His guidance throughout your day and surrendering your expectations of how everything should turn out.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for caring about every detail of my life. Forgive me for the times I’ve rushed ahead without seeking Your guidance. Teach me to begin everything with You, recognize Your voice, and trust Your wisdom above my own understanding. Help me surrender my expectations and believe that Your ways are better than mine, even when I cannot see what lies ahead. May everything I do bring You glory. In Your beloved name I pray, Jesus, amen.
