Jesus Has Already Won

After yesterday’s Gem about standing and fighting with the Lord, I felt a little worried about how it might make people feel. After all, end times and spiritual warfare can feel scary or intimidating and I think because of this the Lord chose to give us reassurance in the middle of the warning with this Gem of Knowledge:

“Don’t worry about what will happen. I already won. Now is the time of sifting and burning.”

That changes how we look at everything.

Yes, there is a spiritual battle. Yes, Scripture tells us difficult times will come. And yes, God is clearly calling His people to prepare. But we aren’t fighting to determine who ultimately wins.

Jesus already won.

Through His death and resurrection, Christ defeated the power of sin and death. Whatever happens in this world, the final outcome isn’t hanging in the balance. That means we can prepare without panic, fight without fear, and watch what is happening around us without losing our peace.

But then comes the second part of the Gem: “Now is the time of sifting and burning.”

Those words made me think about what both processes accomplish. Sifting separates. Burning purifies. One reveals what belongs and what doesn’t; the other consumes what cannot remain.

Perhaps that is part of what God is doing right now—not only in the world, but in us.

Today’s reading in Nehemiah gives us a beautiful picture of this. God’s people gathered together and listened as the Book of the Law was read aloud. As they heard God’s Word, they began to understand how far they had wandered. They wept, confessed their sins, worshiped, and remembered God’s faithfulness throughout their history.

The Word exposed what needed to change, but God wasn’t exposing them simply to condemn them. He was bringing His people back to Himself.

That’s an important distinction.

When God sifts us, things become visible. Motives are revealed. Compromise becomes harder to justify. Things we’ve depended upon may suddenly prove unreliable. And when He allows the heat to increase, what is genuine becomes increasingly distinguishable from what is not.

That can be uncomfortable, but it can also be merciful.

Fire is used throughout Scripture as an image of testing and purification. It burns away what doesn’t belong so that what remains can be made stronger and purer. If God is preparing His people for what lies ahead, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised when He begins removing things that would keep us from standing when the pressure increases.

Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 9 fit beautifully here. He describes the discipline of an athlete who trains with purpose. “So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing” (1 Corinthians 9:26, NLT). Paul wasn’t pretending or merely going through the motions. His faith was real, and so was his determination to follow Christ. He understood that following Jesus required intentionality, discipline, and perseverance. He wasn’t casually drifting through his faith and hoping he’d be ready when difficulty came.

Neither should we.

This season isn’t a reason to obsess over every headline or try to identify every prophetic event. It is a reason to ask God, “What are You doing in me?”

What is being sifted out?

What needs to be burned away?

Where has comfort replaced obedience? Where has fear become stronger than faith? Where have we relied on the world for security instead of trusting God?

And when that examination feels intimidating, today’s Psalm brings us right back to peace:

“We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help and our shield.” — Psalm 33:20 (NLT)

Our hope isn’t in our ability to predict what happens next. It isn’t even in our ability to perfectly prepare ourselves.

Our hope is in Him.

So don’t be afraid of the sifting. Don’t run from the refining. Let God remove whatever cannot go where He is taking you.

The battle has already been decided.

Now He is preparing His people to stand in the victory He has already won. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take time to be with the Lord today, even if its just 5 minutes. Ask Him:

• “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
  • Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
• Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
  • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Let today be a day of surrender to God. Ask Him to remove anything that weakens your faith and strengthen everything that will help you remain faithful to Jesus.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You that I don’t have to fear what is coming because Jesus has already won. When You sift and refine me, help me trust Your purpose instead of resisting the process. Expose anything in my heart that doesn’t belong and burn away whatever would keep me from following You completely. Give me wisdom to recognize what You are doing and courage to cooperate with You. My hope is not in this world or in my own strength. You are my help and my shield. Prepare me to stand firmly in the victory Jesus has already won. In Your name I pray, amen.
