Today’s One Year Bible Verses: Jeremiah 51:54–52:34 | Titus 3:1–15 | Psalm 100:1–5 | Proverbs 26:18–19
Trusting God’s Protection
Have you ever prayed for something you desperately wanted, only to find that God wasn’t opening the door? Maybe you were certain it was the right opportunity, relationship, or direction, but no matter how hard you tried, things just weren’t working out.
It’s easy to trust God’s love when everything is going our way. But what about when He tells us no? Or when He asks us to wait?
Sometimes we interpret unanswered prayers or closed doors as rejection. We wonder whether we’ve done something wrong or whether God is withholding something good from us. But what if His refusal is actually an expression of His love?
Today’s Gem of Knowledge offers a beautiful reminder:
“There’s times when you can and times when you can’t. That doesn’t mean I love you less. It means I love you more and care about what happens to you. Amen.”
As a parent or grandparent, I understand this! There are times when we have to tell our children no, even when they don’t understand why. We might see dangers they cannot recognize or consequences they haven’t considered. And although they may be disappointed or even upset with us, our answer doesn’t mean we love them any less.
Quite the opposite! Sometimes saying no is one of the most loving things we can do.
And isn’t that true of our Heavenly Father?
We see only a small portion of what’s ahead, but God sees the entire picture. He knows where certain decisions will lead, what dangers may be waiting, and what we need to become the people He created us to be.
In today’s reading from Jeremiah, we witness the devastating consequences of Judah’s continued rebellion against God. Jerusalem falls, the temple is destroyed, and many people are carried into exile. For generations, God had warned His people through the prophets, calling them to turn away from sin and return to Him.
His warnings weren’t evidence that He had stopped loving them. They were invitations to repent before destruction came.
And even in the aftermath of judgment, we find a small glimpse of mercy. At the end of Jeremiah 52, King Jehoiachin is released from prison after thirty-seven years of captivity and given a place at the king’s table.
What a reminder that even when circumstances seem hopeless, God’s story isn’t necessarily finished!
In Titus 3, Paul reminds us that our salvation isn’t something we’ve earned through our own goodness. It’s a gift of God’s mercy.
Titus 3:5 (NLT) begins:
“He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.”
God’s love isn’t measured by how often He gives us what we want. It’s revealed through His goodness, mercy, and faithfulness toward us.
Psalm 100:5 (NLT) declares:
“For the LORD is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.”
I love that! His love doesn’t change depending on whether the answer is yes, no, or not yet.
But there’s another side to today’s Gem that I don’t want us to overlook. Sometimes God gives us permission to move forward, and sometimes He asks us to stop. Learning to recognize the difference requires something more than simply asking Him to bless our plans.
It requires a relationship with Him.
As we grow closer to Jesus, spend time in His Word, and learn to recognize His voice, we begin to understand that His guidance is rooted in love, even when we don’t understand His reasons.
And just like a child who trusts a loving parent, we can learn to accept His direction without needing every question answered.
So the next time a door closes, a plan falls through, or you sense the Lord telling you to wait, don’t automatically assume you’ve been forgotten or rejected. Bring your disappointment to Him, seek His wisdom, and trust His heart.
Because sometimes the greatest expression of God’s love isn’t giving us what we want.
It’s protecting us from what we cannot see. 💎
Action (5 Minutes with God)
Take 5 minutes to be with the Lord today. Ask Him:
- “Lord, what do You want me to know about this personally?”
- Journal what He gives you through His Holy Spirit.
- Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
- Journal what He reveals – then do it!
Spend some time with Him today, asking for wisdom to recognize His guidance and the faith to trust Him, whether His answer is yes, no, or wait.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to guide, correct, and protect me. Forgive me for the times I’ve questioned Your goodness because things didn’t happen the way I wanted. Help me remember that Your love is constant and Your wisdom is greater than mine. Teach me to recognize Your voice, accept Your direction, and trust Your heart even when I don’t understand Your plans. Thank You for caring about every detail of my life and for never loving me any less when Your answer is no. In Jesus’ precious name, amen.
