Every Step Matters

Today’s One Year Bible Verses: 1 Samuel 12:1–13:23, John 7:1–30, Psalm 108:1–13, Proverbs 15:4

Walk Daily With God

Following God is not one large decision made once. It is a daily surrender. A daily choosing.

Life is shaped in the quiet moments of surrender, the moments of choosing integrity and obedience, and the direction we choose when no one else sees. Every small step matters because every step is leading us somewhere.

That’s why the Lord reminds us in today’s Gem of Knowledge:

“Today is a day of choosing. It is every day. Choose today whom you will serve and what path you will take. Every step matters. Will you make them with Me?”

Today is a day of choosing.

In 1 Samuel 12, Samuel stands before the people and reminds them of God’s faithfulness through every generation. Even after their mistakes and demands for a king, God still calls them back to Himself. Samuel tells them, “But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you” (1 Samuel 12:24, NLT). The choice was still before them. Would they continue walking with God, or drift away pursuing their own desires?

And honestly, that same choice is before us every day too.

In John 7, people struggled to understand who Jesus truly was. Some doubted Him. Some questioned Him. Others quietly believed. But Jesus continued walking in complete obedience to the Father, unmoved by public opinion or pressure. He knew exactly whose path He was walking and He never wavered.

That’s the challenge for us as well. There are many voices influencing us—culture, fear, pride, comfort, distraction. Every day presents opportunities to either walk closely with God or drift from Him through compromise and self-reliance. Which voice will we listen to?

The smallest choices matter more than we realize.

Psalm 108 reflects the posture we should carry into those choices: “My heart is confident in you, O God; no wonder I can sing your praises!” (Psalm 108:1, NLT). When our hearts are anchored in Him, our steps begin to follow Him more naturally.

And Proverbs 15:4 reminds us, “Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit” (NLT). Even our words reveal the path we are walking. Life or death, peace or division, wisdom or foolishness—they are often found in the small daily decisions we barely notice.

Every step matters.

Not because God is watching to condemn you, but because He longs to walk with you through all of it.

“But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve... But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15 NLT).

So choose the path that leads closer to Him. Choose obedience over compromise. Choose trust over fear. Choose His presence and voice over the noise of the world.

And let every step be made with Him. 💎

Action (5 Minutes with God)

Take a few quiet moments today to ask the Lord honestly:

  • Lord, what do You want me to know about this today?”
    • Journal what He reveals to you by His Holy Spirit
  • Then ask, “What do You want me to do?”
    • Journal what He reveals – then do it!

Let today be a day of walking more closely with Him in obedience, trust, or surrender.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for walking with me every single day. Thank You that You care not only about the big moments in my life, but also the quiet daily steps that shape my path. Thank You for taking every step with me, even if I don’t see it right away. Help me to choose You again and again—in my thoughts, my words, my decisions, and my actions. Give me wisdom to recognize the paths before me and the courage to walk in obedience, integrity, and trust. Keep my heart close to Yours so that every step I take leads me nearer to You. I do not want to walk this life alone. Teach me to walk with You daily. In Jesus’ name, I pray amen.
